What are some things you do or suggest people do to earn quick cash?

Asked by keobooks (14322points) July 20th, 2011

I’m not talking about MAKE MONEY FAST scams. I’d just like to know how you or people you know earn a quick hundred bucks or so when you need a little bit of extra cash on a short term , very temporary basis.

In the spring, I sell the furs from the coyotes that I have hunted and trapped over the last season.

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day: Haul tourists in sub compacts out of the mudholes on the local 4×4 trails with my pickup. I even get to tell them, next time they will believe the sign saying 4 wheel drive vehicles only.

I drink a lot, so I always have plenty of bottles to cash in for return. Now I don’t get a hundred dollars for them, but I’m lazy and they gather up. When I kick myself in the butt to cash them in, I can make a good 40 to 60 bucks with them.
But if you don’t drink, that’s useless, unless you’re willing to spend hours per week gathering them outside, which I’ve also done.

If you’re into video games, a lot of recent consoles and games will net you a nice price in pawn shops, and even better ones in places that specialize in old or rare games, like Game Buzz. I denno if that’s uniquely Canadian, but wherever you live, there must be an equivalent.

If you have really long hair, or even just normally long hair, you can chop it off and sell it to places that use real hair to make wigs from. It has to be reasonably healthy hair though, and if it’s red, apparently, you get a good price for it. Don’t quote me.

It depends upon what their talents and interests are. It also depends upon their time and resources. Is this for you, or for someone else? If it is for you, let us know what you can and are willing to do. For example, does the person want to work out of the home? Are they technically savvy? Can they sew?

I second the sell stuff as @ANef_is_Enuf stated. Also you could rent space at a outdoor flea market during the weekends. You’d be surprised at what people will buy.

Let your friends and neighbors know you’re available for pet/house sitting duties. Lots of people vacationing right now.

Going rate about $20–25 per visit, often 2x daily.

Bring in the mail, water the plants, tend to the pets, turn on lights, etc. Easy work for good money.

I pay someone $25 a day for one visit of about 30 minutes.

Sell items as others have mentioned, run an ad for odd jobs or by word of mouth.

Ask your folks, family if they need anything done. I pay my daughter and her BF for house, yard, help when they are short on cash.

Find a couple of little old ladies in your area that need errands run or housekeeping or cooking help a few hours a week.

Lots of possibilities.

Yeah, as was already mentioned above, sell some of your stuff is as quick as it gets, unless you have special skills and check out the temp services for some fast work although the last time I tried a temp service it seemed more stringent than going to a company straight away. It could have had something to do with me too.
Right now I have so many 39 gallon bags of aluminum cans but no way to get then to the recyclers so they keep building up. No idea what its all worth….someday.

Sell drugs? I hear they go for a lot. I suppose you need some drugs first, so if you don’t have those you’re probably not going to do that.

Learn a quick and easy craft like macrame bracelets or some kind of jewelry, and sell it on the sidewalk.

Sell a kidney on the black market. You’ve got two anyway.

Ebaying more stuff or tossing together a rummage can elicit a few hundred or more for me.

A great way to make quick money is to join a local pyramid scheme! lol

There is no such thing as quick money, unless your investing!

I went to bed after answering this question so sorry for not replying sooner. I was somewhat curious for myself, as I’ve decided that I’d like to be debt free except for a mortgage within 2 years. I’m a bit limited with a baby and a total lack of craftiness (though I may rethink that. Who knows what I make that people want!) I will be selling stuff though.

I just wanted to hear some more creative things to get my brain in gear. I think @WesRriverRat so far has the most creative so far. Selling coyote skins? WoW!

A friend decided she really wanted to stay home when daughter #2 came along, but couldn’t afford to do so. She started making customized items for babies/children, and it has turned into a business. Here is a link to her site, in case you want to check it out for inspiration.

I would have loved to hire someone to help organize a yard sale and would have paid a commission of the earnings. Most of the legwork could have been done from the home.

The same goes for selling items on eBay. I’d like to learn how to sell on it, and then offer my service to people who are attempting to clear out their home be it due to down-sizing or a death.

There are at least two guys in town that detail cars. One was the husband of a co-worker, and he’d come to where we worked, get the keys and do his magic. The other offers to come to one’s home or people can take their car to his place.

Gather stuff you don’t need and make a yard sale

eBay- While it is, in most parts of the country, still too chilly for a good turn out at a garage sale consider getting rid of the stuf you don;t need on eBay. Youw ill clean out those closets and drawers and make a little money at the same time.
