H20: Integral to Life?

Asked by Schroedes13 (3896points) July 21st, 2011

If you enjoy bottled water, what is your favourite brand and why?

I personally enjoy Dasani the best. I have no logical reason, other than I like the packaging.

I make my ice cubes in trays and drink water out of the faucet. If I drink bottled water I prefer DaSani or Fiji. Evian tastes horrible. I easily drink a gallon of water a day, always have.

Schroedes13's avatar

What is a gallon? :P

AshLeigh's avatar

Smart water. :D
It’s good, man!
(I also enjoy Fiji…)

Schroedes13's avatar

@AshLeigh isn’t smart water incredibly expensive though?

AshLeigh's avatar

No… It’s like $2.50 for the SUPER BIG bottle… At least here, in Alaska. :)
Fiji is the expensive stuff. Haha.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@AshLeigh ooh, yes. I like Smart Water, as well.

Schroedes13's avatar

I’ve never tried Smart Water or Fiji. I’ve had Dasani, Evian, C’est Bon, and crazy unknown Chinese brand!

AshLeigh's avatar

It’s so tasty. :)

Dude, the other day I saw a bottle that said it was DIET WATER!!! Hhahahahahahahahahah.

Schroedes13's avatar

Don’t laugh! That stuff works! :P

I drink water out of the tap. I don’t get the concept of buying water – unless it is for an emergency.
We have a well. Hey, stop by the house. There’s free spring water for everyone.

AshLeigh's avatar

Hah. I don’t believe that. :)
All water is diet water…(:

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@worriedguy I agree. I can’t say that I never drink bottled water, but I would say that 99% of the water that I drink comes out of my kitchen sink.

Schroedes13's avatar

I disagree. In China this summer, 99% of the water I’ve drank comes from a bottle. Getting it from the tap, boiling it, waiting for it to cool, and putting it in the fridge takes too long. My two biggest expenses in China have been badminton rackets and bottled water!

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Schroedes13 well, that is different, of course. Why not boil it and keep it refrigerated for future use?

Schroedes13's avatar

because I only have one Nalgene bottle here…..and it kind of tastes funny!

ps. what’s a gallon? :P

Silly Canadian.

I no longer buy bottled (flat) water now that I live in a county that cleans up the water enough that the tap doesn’t taste like piss. When I did, I tried to filter it myself, but it didn’t help much. I do, however, drink sparkling water like it’s crack regular H2O, although I do buy the cheapest generic version I can. There was a bit of a mini-drama in my life last week when the grocery store with the cheaper off-brand sparkling water changed off-brands, making it seem as though they had simply discontinued my precious connection to mouth fizziness. I wrote out a whole letter to the company, only to not send it because I was afraid it was too vitriolic and hyperbolic, making me seem a bit more psychotic than I really am.

We have good water where I live so I drink mostly tap water. I do like it to be chilled though and tend to only drink water from that has been in the fridge for a while. I only buy bottled water when I am out and have forgotten to take my own bottle with me.

FutureMemory's avatar

I only drink bottled water. The tap water here tastes terrible.

Seelix's avatar

I have a Brita filter pitcher and always keep it filled. Toronto tap water is fine, but the Brita just makes me feel better about drinking it, and it means my water is always chilled. I don’t buy bottled water very often, but when I do, I just buy whatever’s cheapest.

marinelife's avatar

I don’t drink bottles water unless I am out somewhere with no access to water. Because it is so very bad for the planet.

That said, my favorite bottled water is Poland Spring from Maine.

Schroedes13's avatar

@incendiary_dan the thing is I’m only here for the summer and I didn’t really want to purchase anything of value that I wouldn’t need back home! I love my tap water back home!

incendiary_dan's avatar

@Schroedes13 The ones I linked to are cheap, and you can make it portable to bring camping or something. I got mine as a backup water system in case there are any service disruptions. With another hot summer here, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some blackouts from grid strain, and that could mean problems getting clean water for some. Considering that water is essential to life, it only makes sense to me that everyone would have a backup source, and an effective filter seems the easiest way to get that.

Schroedes13's avatar

Thanks @incendiary_dan I’ll check some of them out!

Peligrino. I like bubbles. I did recently buy some glass bottles to put tap water in. I like to add a drop of lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, or peppermint essential oil to it and most of those break down toxins so I don’t want to use plastic bottles.

dappled_leaves's avatar

Tap water, but if I’m stuck I prefer Dasani, because the bottles are sturdy enough to reuse several times without becoming gross.

TexasDude's avatar

Whatever they have at Wal Mart. I can’t tell a difference in the taste, and bottled water is a scam anyway. I just like the convenient packaging and my mom buys it, so whateveskis.

stardust's avatar

For the most part I drink filtered tap water. When I’m out and about, I like Evian, Volvic and Deep RiverRock

SpatzieLover's avatar

Milwaukee Tap Water is the best, but I drink Fiji when I’m away from home.

AshLeigh's avatar

Fiji FTW. :)

mrrich724's avatar

Smart Water. And you know, some people will say there is no difference, but there is. There are subtle flavors, and the way the water feels on the tongue makes a difference. It’s hard to explain, but I bet if you gave me two glasses of unlabeled water, I could tell you which was SmartWater.

If I had the money I’d drink nothing but SmartWater

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard I don’t think bottled water is a scam. I’ve lived in NY, FL, and CA, and I’ve never tasted municipal water that tasted better than bottled. But if you can’t taste a difference then good for you. And I’ve tried giving it a chance, b/c I’m cheap, so I don’t want to spend the $ if I don’t have to.

Also, just because tap is regulated doesn’t mean it’s the best to drink. In Beverly Hills I put a cup of tap water down and forgot about it. A few hours later I picked it up and there was black sediment at the bottom. To ensure it wasn’t something else, I filled another cup and did it again. I now live in Broward County Florida. We just got over a warning to stick to bottled water b/c the municipal tested positive for e.coli. First of all, how long were we drinking it before they tested for e.coli. Secondly, you know what their solution was? Dump gallons of chlorine in the water to kill the e.coli. How do I know? I tried it today after a few days on the bottled, and I immediately spit it out. It tasted like I was drinking pool water. How many THOUSANDS of gallons of bleach did they have to pour in at the treatment facility for that taste to make it to the West-most side of town?!?!?!

It’s also about convenience. I pay $0.35 per gallon of water for my five gallon drums and I always have freezing cold, filtered water available. I can’t get my tap to spit out water that cold on command!

P.S. The only tap I’ve tasted better than bottled was from North Carolina. And the best water I’ve had I drank straight from a stream in NC. Now THAT was fresh. (Probably had animal dookie in it! LOL)

incendiary_dan's avatar

@mrrich724 As I told @Schroedes13, you can buy your own filter. Even just carbon filters, which is exactly what the bottling companies use to make it taste better, are fairly cheap when you consider it in terms of price per gallon. In that regard, it is a scam.

aprilsimnel's avatar

New York City tap ftw! Granted, it actually comes from upstate.

I don’t drink bottled water.

FutureMemory's avatar

NYC tap is pretty good. Far better than the sludge that comes out of the pipes in CA.

Judi's avatar

I’m slowing down my bottled water usage after seeing the short video, The Story of Bottled Water
