Why isn't my phone working abroad?

Asked by pepp7377 (61points) July 21st, 2011

I purchased an HTC Sensation from t-mobile four weeks ago in the US and requested an unlock code. I entered the unlock code, then took the phone with me to India, where I replaced my t-mobile SIM with one from Airtel, an Indian carrier. I called Airtel to provide data services, which they say they have done. But my phone is unable to connect to data. I am only able to make / receive phone calls and texts, but no data. Help??

Different countries have different systems. Your phone probably doesn’t understand the local data setup.

Well it depends on which area you are in and by data do you mean accessing the internet? maybe you aren’t in a wifi-zone.

My gut says that Airtel screwed up. Based on articles like this and this, I think it safe to say that the HTC Sensation works in India.

@nationsfairylee 3G is something different. I often surf the net from my phone in areas where there is no wifi within miles.
