Is Blackberry Messenger free worldwide?

Asked by varey14 (57points) July 22nd, 2011

Hi, I have a Blackberry Curve with a contract from O2 that includes 500mb of internet use and have Blackberry Messenger downloaded and working on my phone. I was just wondering if you could use Blackberry Messenger from any country for free, as I am going on holiday and would like to message my girlfriend and friends in the UK.
Thanks.

Yes. I do believe you need to know their email address.

My understanding from talking to my US provider, is that BBM is free worldwide. I was going to give my old Curve to a friend in Europe and I was told that it would work as long as my friend had a plan that supported BB. I could be using it to speak with a friend in MX for free if we didn’t already have other means of communications.

My provider said that the BBM service is separate from SMS and other data. It should be free if your gf has a blackberry phone.

You do not need their email address, just the BBM id #

Just because BBM is a free service doesn’t mean that your data usage is free. If you’re going outside your home country then you will be charged data races that may be completely seperate from your local country data use, you should check with your provider about that since the international data rates are pretty high.

Yes, but you are able to use it only if you have the internet service.
