Who will blink first over the debt ceiling, the Democrats or the Republicans?

I imagine whatever deal is struck, they’ll paint it as a pretty even compromise. Backing down wouldn’t look good for either’s political career.

@FutureMemory Actually, it is much more likely for both sides to claim victory. No one wants to admit that they had to compromise.

To answer they question, I think the Republicans will cave first. From what I hear, the democrats have a bigger plan (3 trillion something against 1 trillion something). The Republicans accused the Democrats of “phantom savings” from future wars that won’t happen, but then someone said that the same thing about the Republicans. They are probably both right. I don’t think either plan currently contains tax increases.

The Democrats have been semaphoring “I give up” with their eyes for days now.

Given Obama’s habit of folding like origami, I fear that the Batshit Express may roll right over him.

Looks to me like the Democrats already blinked.

The only positive is that polls show the voters are holding the Republicans responsible for the lack of cooperation in Washington.

Republicans always seem to be demonized every time the govt shuts down, it has always backfired on them, They have a history ala Newt. So in this instance it will do them more harm if bad things happen.

I missed the deal. Now that it is finished for now, who blinked first?

Well, we are keeping the biggest expense we have (the Bush tax cuts) so I would say the Dems did.
