Is this true? The cereal box says, "America's Favorite Cereal". More...

I read a lot of food and cereal box labels. A particular box of cereal, by General Mills, states that Honey Nut Cheerios are America’s favorite cereal. This may be true, but how did General Mills arrive at this conclusion? My cereal box of Honey Nut Cheerios does not give a reference to a survey taken to back-up this statement. I must admit that I do have two huge 21.6 oz. boxes of this cereal, sitting directly in front of me. Question: how did General Mills decide that their Honey Nut Cheerios is America’s favorite cereal?
