Do you have a creative idea that just requires financial backing?

Asked by _zen_ (7857points) August 5th, 2011

Could you pull it off? A TV show idea? A script for a movie in your desk drawer? A cure for…? A technological breakthrough or an amazing invention like the ziplock bag or the bread slicer?

Maybe it’s the proverbial sliced bread?

What’s holding you back?

Think of the incredible things that have been done in this world by people with little or nothing. A wing and a prayer, literally.

So what’s stopping you?

PS: I feel the same way sometimes.

Sure. My wife has some great ideas too. She’s started a couple businesses that only faltered due to lack of operating capital.

Sorry, not going to reveal any of these ideas though. ;)

I’m an ideas man, I have more ideas than I could ever put in to practice, if you give me the USA defense budget to spend on my inventions and ideas, I would still not have enough money to do them all. Some are bad, some are good, some are just plain insane.

What is stopping me?

Usually it has been money, or that I just did not go thru with it, because thinking it up accomplished as much as actually making the thing would.

Getting the financial backing would be the most creative idea I’ve ever had.

I want to do an intensive project of translating Shakespeare monologues into ASL and videoing different signers doing my translations. What’s stopping me… I don’t have the right audiovisual equipment, the money to fly around and video the signers I like the best, and the money to pay them. I have Final Cut Pro, though, but am still a FCP rookie.
I’m going to apply for a grant through VSA, though, and will go from there.

I never think of the marketability of my ideas. For instance, I invented 50 years ago, but it never occurred to me to sell them to other people.

@Yarnapalooza So you’re the one that invented 50 years ago. I recently patented 15 minutes ago.~

@zen What happened to the words blanket robes?

I just noticed an advertisement for another product I made for my first son, in the 1960’s – designer lunch pails. I used to make them out of canvas with various cartoon characters and such glued on them. I gave them out to friends and family as gifts. I never thought of selling them.

I don’t know, Yarnsky, whatever did happen to blanket robes? And what are they? You are some inventor you: you invented time and blanket robes and lunch pails?

Time for another Yarnapalooza guys.
