Is anyone else seeing weird fluctuations in lurve scores lately?

Asked by ANef_is_Enuf (26839points) August 5th, 2011

In the last few days I could have sworn that I saw an unusual lurve score next to my name, once it was (9) and another time it was (16,000something). I thought it was my imagination. Just now I was in a thread and looking at SavoirFaire’s lurve score it said (4) very clearly. I was just about to refresh the page when I noticed, and I stopped and looked. When I refreshed, it was back to normal.

Has anyone else seen this?? What is going on?

I gotta ask… why does it matter so much? I mean do you people talk for lurve? I just enjoy the company of others.

I’ve seen this, and at first I thought it was a browser problem. I’ve had similar issues before that were definitely browser related. Now I think it may be something happening as the system recalculates lurve scores after a GA or GQ is awarded. An anomalous number is posted for a moment, but then everything goes back to normal.

Yes, I keep seeing @ANef_is_Enuf and have posted about it on at least one other thread.

Pictures or it never happened.:~)

SavoirFaire's avatar

@Hibernate Where did @ANef_is_Enuf say it mattered? She’s asking about an odd phenomenon, not complaining about lurve. It’s worth bringing up just in case it’s a sign of some deeper problem.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@AmWiser The last thread I posted about this was in regards to your lurve score at the latest top of TJBM. When I went to your Q, you had 1 lurve…then I went to your profile & it was your actual score. When I went back to TJBM thread your actual lurve score “blinked” back to normal before my eyes. WEIRD!

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@Hibernate I never said it mattered. I was trying to figure out a potential glitch on Fluther.
@AmWiser, of course I thought to get a screen shot after I finally hit refresh. I’m going to watch more closely now. It’s strange.

It is strange. I’ll see +5 for ___ in a list several times but my lurve doesn’t change. I’ve also seen the weird numbers you’re talking about.

@Hibernate if Lurve doesn’t matter, why do we give a big party to anyone who gets into 10K? Obviously it matters enough.

SavoirFaire's avatar

@linguaphile Seeing +5 in the list just means someone gave you a GA. Each member can only give a certain amount of lurve to every other member. If you get a GA from someone who is already maxed out on you, it appears in the list but doesn’t add to your score. Also, an answer stops gaining lurve after a certain number of people give it a GA.

I haven’t noticed anything but @snowberry seems to have had 900 points disappear and other people witnessed it. All I’ve noticed is that people seem to be particularly generous with the lurve lately. And, as I inch ever so painfully slowly towards 20k I am very aware of every point and I have not noticed any issues with my numbers, at least.

Based on your experience on seeing lurve fluctuations, maybe it’s a case of…

L ikely
U nauthorized
R andom
V isual
E rror

I’d like to know if it is possible to mention the word “lurve” in a discussion without someone pointing out how it must mean that your whole life/world/existence revolves around lurve.

linguaphile's avatar

I don’t think so @ANef_is_Enuf… I think we have lurve envy, lurve issues, and lurve complexes.
When I see quirks in the system, I just assume something’s going on at the tech end. I’ve asked the mods questions about it before and it always seems to be a “tech thing.”

”...I saw an unusual lurve score next to my name, once it was (9).... ...looking at SavoirFaire’s lurve score it said (4) very clearly.”

I haven’t seen that recently, but I did see it a few times about 1½ years ago.

What I have seen more recently, are posts where I see two simultaneously different lurve totals for me in the same thread. IIRC, one of my posts showed a total of 7,041 and my next one showed a total of 7,046.

Didn’t notice nothing, but I was gone for a bit. Sounds like a glitch in the matrix though, wouldn’t be the first time. Similar things have occurred before.

mazingerz88's avatar

@Symbeline I believe in you. I believe you are the ONE. Blue or red pill?

Berserker's avatar

@mazingerz88 I denno what you’re talking about, let’s just put up the Kung Fu room and have a hell of a good time. ^^

mazingerz88's avatar

@Symbeline I think Agent Smith has infected Fluther’s lurve matrix. Better download all kungfu, as well as Mike Tyson’s ear chomping fighting styles.

Berserker's avatar

Kung Fu and zombies!

(you didn’t spect me to get much deeper than that, did you?) :)

But yeah, let’s kick some ass. :D

Something weird must be going on, as this isn’t the first thread about this in the last 2 days. We’re looking into it, but I don’t have any answers just yet.

No biggie. :)

Interesting you should say you think people are being very generous with their lurve @Lilycoyote. I have been noticing the opposite in some threads and it might be just new people who aren’t in the habit of clicking GA. I was looking at quite a few threads the other day, where people had presented very good answers and nobody had any lurve. I noticed this across a few threads. I just assumed people are forgetting to click the good answer question. I should say, I am not bothered by this but I was reminded of @zen saying the same thing a while ago. I think it is one of those ebb and wane things…

And Neffie, I haven’t noticed any fluctuations. I will watch more closely though.

chyna's avatar

I have noticed what @Bellatrix has stated, that in a lot of threads there are no GA’s and in my opinion, they deserved them. I do think maybe the newbies aren’t doing it as much, so in those instances I gave GA’s to all.
@lilycoyote I can’t help you there, I maxed out on you long ago!

SavoirFaire's avatar

@ANef_is_Enuf Don’t worry about it. The other threads are coming from a different angle. This is all useful information.

I saw that yesterday. I clicked on jonsblond’s question about air conditioning, and she had 6 lurve. I refreshed the page, and it was back to a normal amount (I have no idea if it was the right amount, but it was a large number like I would expect).

@Bellatrix I noticed that, too. I clicked on several questions yesterday that had really well-thought-out answers, and everybody had 0 GAs. Normally those threads would have had 4 or 5 GAs per person with how long the answers had been there.

Perhaps we need to mentor our new jellies a little more? Who knows… all good anyway.

Blueroses's avatar

I tried to take a screen shot the other day of my profile page. The Questions/Answers/Awards/Followers were all correct and my lurve was (1) but then it refreshed and came back to normal.

@Bellatrix Sometimes you have to stoke the fire. People are more likely to give a GA to a response that already has one. Social creatures, we are.

Blueroses's avatar

@FutureMemory At last. Proof that hungry King Neptune exists

SpatzieLover's avatar

At times it varies as to when I’m having trouble making my lurve “stick” to people. I give a GA to one or more jellies on a thread. When I go back to the thread for an update, I notice that none of my lurve is registered. Sometimes I’m having to click a few times :/

Brian1946's avatar

@FutureMemory

Good visual proof, mate.

BTW, are you going to mass zap all that stuff in your Question and Activity folders? ;-)

SpatzieLover's avatar

Of course I didn’t get a screen shot…but just as I was clicking out of @Bellatrix‘s rooey party…she had 7 lurve…her score shows fine now.
