Help me with renting college textbooks?

Asked by redfeather (6507points) August 7th, 2011

I’m taking one class this semester before I transfer and I only need one book. I looked at Chegg and they didn’t have it. Do any of you jellies know of a reputable textbook renting site?

I don’t know how widespread it is, but college books are extremely cheap on e-readers. I was looking at some college books that were 200 dollars, but only 10 on an e-reader? WTF?

@Blackberry True that! E-books are so much cheaper. I don’t know why though, i’ve heard my tutor talk about this site though—> http://www.bookrenter.com/
Check it out!

@Tbag Oh, I like the tiki man. But it says my book is unavailable. GRRR!!! It’s said that the last 3 sites I checked :(

Biology, the book is Scientific American Biology for a Changing World with Core Physiology. I must be real stooopid because I can’t find it.

Would it be cheaper to buy one on EBay if you can find it? I’m pretty sure Amazon sells used text books too.

I’ve bought them from Ebay and Amazon before, I just wanted to look into renting for the one book.

Lots of textbooks, especially the popular ones, have been scanned into .pdf files that you can just download and view on your PC. That’s illegal though, so you totally shouldn’t do it. Nope.

I think that’s a newer edition, because those are the only ones popping up, but my teacher has the other edition listed.

Ah, crap. That must be one tough book to find online :o

Ebooks are cheaper, but also significantly harder to read when they’re textbooks. Ebook format is really made to be read like a novel – each page, in its turn, without stopping to make notes. It’s pretty hard to find that one page with the paragraph you wanted, and not read the rest of it.

What’s the ISBN? Even when I use Amazon, all I get is this, which ships in “1–3 months”.

you only need one book? Ugh, lucky bitch.

I suggest an e reader. It’s the best thing to invest in. All of my other options have been listed.

I’ll probably just end up renting the new edition :/ ah well. Last semester I bought a book for genetics and halfway through the class I saw it had a big seal that said “DO NOT SELL IN UNITED STATES” I still worked out though. I wonder if its pages were poison.

They really have balls trying to tell you not to re-sell something in the United States that you bought.

You might just need to buy the book. Check out bigwords
