I was going to aak a similar question I while back and never did. I have never done it myself, but it once crossed my mind that I felt like I wanted to comfort someone that way. They had not asked me or ever made a move towards me physically. It was not pity in a negative sense, but for a tragedy they were going through. I never would have acted on it, but I understand the feeling.
