Can you play Minecraft off of a Flash Drive?

Asked by stupidcomedycenter (294points) August 10th, 2011

I have my files for Minecraft on one computer but that computer is really slow and I want to move them. I put them on my flash drive and went to play on the faster computer but they were not there. They were in the saved files folder but not on the game. Is this the server itself or did I do something wrong?

Did you copy all the files from %appdata?

@Paul Still minecraft will look and save to the %appdata% folder.

Try googling minecraft portable, like you should have, first result.

Try the zip file under the Downloads section in this article. I haven’t tried this particular copy because it’s Windows-only and nearly a year old, but it may update once launched from the flash drive for the first time. It also may be slow if the flash drive can’t handle the read/write speeds of the game.
