What would cause a cell phone to beep every morning at 2 am?

Asked by joelwilson46 (21points) August 11th, 2011

I have an lg phone from verizon and had this problem, thought it was the phone so I purchased a new phone LG Octane and it also beeps every morning at 2 am. Unplug cordless phones in house and it still beeps. The cell phone is off when this happens, I can be out of town and it never beeps at 2am

Hmm . . . my verizon phone turns itself off and back on at 4 every morning (I got to set the time) to er, reset itself. Check your manual to see if it mentions something similar.

Do you have an alarm clock set that you don’t know about?

@Kayak8
I think you hit it. My phone from Verizon Wireless goes through a reset and back-up of phone directory at 3 AM. It wakes my wife up two or three times a month.

@Kayak8 and @Tropical_Willie But why wouldn’t it beep when he is out of town?

You maybe on roam and not on Verizon Wireless towers.

On the Octane phone, an alarm icon will appear on your notification bar if there is an alarm set. You may have one set that doesn’t go off on the weekend or similar schedule so it may be only coincidental that it doesn’t happen when you are out of town.

If the phone is off when this happens, then instinct tells me it has to be something else that’s causing the beeping.

Maybe you set an alarm to your digital watch or ipod?

@AshlynM Depending on its initial state, my phone turns itself off and then on (or on and then off) when it does the reset (and is accompanied by a beep).

That’s odd.

@AshlynM Most smartphones will do maintenance at night and do not need to be turned on. The internal clock will schedule and run if the battery is in the phone, it does not have to be turned on.
