It’s a little vague, but by the term, it kind of hinders exploratory thinking, which is important for critical thinking.

Simple minded is a nice way of saying someone is stupid. Is there anything wrong with being stupid?

Sometimes, there is a lot wrong with being simple minded. Other times, they find many like minded invididuals to hang with and it’s not so bad, I guess, for them.

Nothing is wrong with being whatever minded. If everyone in the world were on the same mind, world would suck.

My understanding of simple minded means someone is retarded. Closed minded means that a person is so entrenched in a certain mindset that they are unwilling to consider other possibilities.

Nothing wrong with either but I do try to avoid both…I prefer like minded. ;)

If knowledge equals power, and power corrupts, then…

I prefer a simpleton to a charlatan.

It mostly depends on the context they are used but most times they are insults.

Not a blessed thing. Being close minded would mean that you’d be more ignorant, whereas simple minded might mean naive or uncaring.

It depends on the context. There are certain circumstances where being simple-minded would be a drawback, such as “President of the United States,” or “Building Manager at a Nuclear Plant” or “Harvard Instructor.” However, many simpleminded people get along perfectly well in their daily lives doing perfectly normal things.

Simple minded to me means naive, ill-informed, unquestioning, lacking the inclination or the capacity for critical thinking. Such people adopt the the predigested beliefs and attitudes of those around them, rejecting all matter of available evidence contrary to these often baseless beliefs and they fail to take initiative to plan for their futures and they rarely commit to working with others to make life better for those who most need it.

Thus I suggest that the simple minded tend also to be likely also to be closed-minded. If you don’t care to, are unable to, or refuse to open your mind to alternative viewpoints because you are simple minded, then you are also closed-minded.

Not to confuse KISS (keep it simple stupid) etc. with simple minded. Could it be that you are thinking about “give me the simple life” etc. rather than simple minded which really means that one’s cognitive hasn’t kept paced with the individual as they’ve aged.

There is, but if you are simple minded, I can’t explain it to you.

Depends on the definition of simple. If it means uncomplicated, that can be a good thing. If it means lacking mental capacity, not so good at all.
