Do you have any tips for the new owner of a pet frog?

We just got an aquatic frog, specifically an albino clawed frog. I have no experience being a frog owner. Do you have any tips for a frog novice?

I have African Dwarf Frogs, which are like smaller versions of the clawed frog. They are really easy to care for. As long as they get their frog food and clean water, then they are happy campers. I have read that ADFs are rather social, so if the clawed frog is anything like them, you may want to get yours a friend. Also, be sure to give it plenty of hiding places, and don’t worry when it sheds it’s skin. It might look like a disease, but they shed often and it’s totally normal. They love to eat their skin too.
Have fun with your new frog. They are great pets. :)

We need to definitely trade some froggie pictures in the future. They are hilarious.

GA to you @8Convulsions: I am buying him a friend on Sunday, and also some stuff to hide in. I am going to let my daughter pick it all out. I like how he feeds himself with his hands. They say these frogs live a pretty long time. How big do they get?

I was reading about the Clawed Frog today and found a site with a lot of really good information on it. Here.
It says they grow to be about six inches! That’s so cool! My little guys are only a couple inches.
It looks like the biggest issue you might face in the future, would be the tank size. They recommend one frog per 10 gallons once they are full grown.

Here are some pictures of mine. My girl frog is a bit obese. Haha.

This little guy is about two inches from head to toe. He’s apparently what they call a “froglet.”

Hey Update Lady, how’s the new froglet?

I bought him a friend and some rocks for the bottom of the tank and put a fake plant in there. The two froglets seem very happy to be together! I am probably going to put the filter in there, too. When I got the second frog, I poured all the water out and rinsed the whole thing out. I have a filter that doesn’t disturb the water too much, which I heard these frogs like not too much disturbance.

Be sure to provide a place for them to hang on to at the top of the water and rest, so they don’t have to go up and down all the time in order to breathe. That will wear them out.

@snowberry: What are some examples of things they can hang on to at the top of the water?

You can offer a stick that’s anchored at the bottom, but sticks above the water, or if your water is shallow, you can build the gravel up on one side so it provides a bank for them to come to. You can also look at plants that grow up to the top of the water, float at the top of the water, or even a fish hamock- a suction cup device that was invented for air breathing fish such as Betas. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4055997
