What's the most comfortable office chair you've ever had the pleasure of sitting in?

Asked by funkdaddy (17777points) August 19th, 2011

I end up sitting in front of a computer 12 hours or more most days and for the last 3 years I’ve been sitting in something about like this.

It’s lightweight, moves easily, and I don’t hate it.

But I started thinking about how much time I spend in it and it’s probably not the best choice for my body. I’ve experimented some with standing up while I work and will probably do more of that, but standing all day every day probably isn’t the solution either.

So I need to find a new chair. I’ve actually purchased one that was comfortable in the store but miserable after 3–4 hours in it and I’m not sure where to look next.

So, dear Jellies, what’s your favorite office chair?

Mine is a Herman Miller Celle chair, not as fancy as the Aeron but also about half the price. I especially like the air flow, the back support, and the way it leans back without tipping.

This might not be as comfy as a padded cloth seat, but it is flexible and comfy enough, and it’ll last a lot longer.

You don’t want to sit on it bare-legged or you’ll wind up with a grid of indentations on your thighs. But on the other hand, you don’t want to sit bare-legged on a vinyl or leather seat, or the chair will try to get up when you do.

This might not be the most comfortable office chair I’ve ever sat in. I tried out some luxury models at the chair store that I was never going to own. But it’s certainly the most comfortable that I have ever spent time in.

I also like @Jeruba‘s Celle chair. When they brought one into the office for me to try, everyone else ordered one too. And they had just replaced all the chairs but mine about 6 months before I got mine.

The couch in my office is very cozy and great for naps!

When I worked for Infiniti a few years back, we had Merman Miller mesh chairs and they were incredibly comfortable. I wish I had such a chair for the job I have now where I regularly sit for 10+ hrs at a stretch.

My coworker (a salesman) had back surgery and the insurance required and paid for the company to buy him a custom chair for his back. He was gone all day on sales calls and I’d come in early to steal his chair. I still have dreams about that chair.

I don’t work in an office, but, my home computer chair was a great find. It is a wide seated asian design with great back support. It looks really cool in a faux Alligator or Snakeskin vinyl. Attractive, comfy and functional, but, probably too flamboyant for the office. lol
I think everyone should have custom chairs! Comfort is everything!

I have this guy. I got it on sale and with a bunch of coupons and rebates, and it ended up costing me about $30. It’s got a real Stephen Hawking vibe to it, and it has a back cushion and a crazy head rest.

My only issue is that it retains a lot of butt smell. Nothing a little febreze doesn’t take care of, though.

I love my Aeron chair – and was lucky enough to score it half off at an office liquidation sale. Those are some pricey chairs yet worth every penny in my opinion. However, the one (Celle) @Jeruba mentioned is better looking in my opinion.

I liked my grandpa’s heated massage Lazy boy recliner.
