How can I interact with other’s on a post? What feature do you click on in order to have a conversation?

Are you asking how to answer a question or do you want to have a private conversation. There’s an answer box and also if you click on the person’s avatar you can PM them.

If you want to address a comment directly to someone who has already posted a comment in a discussion, just type the ”@” symbol and a list of the participants in the discussion will appear. Choose the person you wish to address (or refer to) and their name will appear as a red link, which will both grab their attention and link back to that person’s last comment.

If you want to send a private message which we usually write out as PM (kind of like an e-mail) to any particular person on Fluther, you can click on their picture (avatar) or type in their name in the search box located at the very top right side of every Fluther page (it has a little magnifying glass icon in it) and their avatar picture will pop up somewhere on the page, then you can click on their avatar picture and then that particular person’s profile page will open up. Somewhere near the top of everyone’s profile page is a box that says message. Click on that, then scroll down a little lower and you will see an empty text box, kind of like the one that you see on the regular Q & A pages, simply start typing in that box and then push the button below that typing box that says send message and you can check the box directly to the right of that one if you want the message to be private (just like a regular e-mail) or keep it unchecked if you don’t care if other Fluther members read your message. Later on, or even almost immediately, you might get a notice in your profile box right above the community feed box over on the right hand side of any Fluther page that is open when you are logged on. Just click on messages for you and another page with your messages will open up.

If you simply want to reply to someone directly on one of the Q & A pages, simply start typing in the text box that will be directly underneath the last post that was posted. If you want to direct a message to a particular jelly, type in the @ symbol and the whole list of folks who have posted on that particular question will pop up. Move your mouse over the name of the person you want to address with your mouse and that name will be highlighted. Click your mouse and then that name, with the @ symbol will appear in the textbox and then you can just keep on writing. Sometimes the names won’t pop up automatically (a technical glitch) so you can just type in the @ symbol with the member’s name directly after it (with no spaces) that you want to address. So if you want to talk to me, you would type in @Kardamom (just make sure you spell the name correctly so that it will highlight the name in red in the text box). Most of the time, you can choose a person’s name directly from the list that is supposed to pop up when you type the @ symbol into the text box.

Sorry this is so long and involved, but when I first got on Fluther, I was clueless as to the technological parts, so a few kind Jellies walked me through the exact steps.

To give a short answer to the question I think you intended: You don’t make public replies to individual messages. When you enter text in the box at the bottom of the thread (where all thread responses are composed) and then click “Answer”, your response goes to the bottom of the common queue.

Welcome to Fluther!
