What kind of store is Winco?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) August 29th, 2011

I know it’s a grocery store, but what other stores is it similar to? Walmart, Vons, Albertson’s, Trader Joe’s?

Does it have any eating places inside?

I’ve never been to Winco and one is going to open soon in my town so that’s why I’d like to know.

I have one right up the street. It is a big warehouse and you bag your own groceries. It is cheaper than walmart. And they usually have a place to buy hot pizza inside. They do have shitty produce but everything else is great.

Anything cheaper than Walmart is always good. I’m anxious to try it out. Thank you.

Here is a googlemap image of our Winco. Winco is in the upper-left and walmart in the lower-right. Winco is only food and that walwart is a crazy one that sells everything that could possibly be made in China. Winco is huge and amazingly cheap if you love freezer pizzas.

The building to the left of Walmart is Home Depot.

Winco is like a supermarket the size of costco, with the prices and clientele of Walmart.

They have really good prices, but a lot of the stuff there is prepackaged convenience foods, and the produce section isn’t fantastic, but it’s acceptable. Huge freezer section, full service deli, bakery, a sizable bulk foods section so you can buy pounds of rice/beans/pasta or candy and even make your own peanut butter and honey. They sell a lot of lesser brand label products compared to regular supermarkets, but do have the brand names when it counts (like condiments). Even though they market towards a lower-income type clientele they have some interesting things you wouldn’t expect as well, like organic sweet potato chips, or Tofu pudding. I reccomend the umpqua ice cream, it’s really good.

In the front there is also a take out Pizza and sandwich place which’ll sell pretty huge portions for a few bucks. Only thing is that they are really salty.
