How much should I tip these guys?

Asked by Nimis (13255points) September 1st, 2011 from iPhone

They’re demoing and hauling away a piece of concrete.

67” x 61” x 4”
By hand. (Sledgehammer and crowbar.)
Looks like it’ll take about 20 minutes to finish.

I don’t usually tip for that kind of work. They quoted you the price.

I don’t think they’re expecting it either.

I don’t think that type of work expects a tip. But it would be a nice gesture to offer them some bottled water, lemonade or iced tea. Although we don’t have a gardener, my neighbor down the street does. One day, this poor guy was mowing the lawn and it was about 90 degrees outside. I ran inside and made a jug of lemonade and took it along with some cups down to him and his partner. They were thrilled (and a little bit shocked). I just told them to leave the pitcher at Mrs. H’s house and I’d come pick it up later. They ended up bringing it back up to my house after they were done.

I would offer them something to drink but no cash tip.

If they are over 21 offer them a beer when they are done… otherwise go with iced tea.

Aren’t you paying them a fair price for doing the job, and if so, why do you think you should throw in a tip as well?

Only if you really feel like it. 5%?

Agree with @Kardamom. I always provided refreshment for any outdoor labor. I would occassionally tip a neighborhood kid if he cut my lawn for cheap and did an excellent job. Most kids don’t know how to price cutting the grass. I don’t think professionals have that problem.

I would probably gire each of them an extra $10
