General Question

I can't remember the author of a book I read. Can you help?

Asked by digitalimpression (9915points) September 3rd, 2011

The book was written in the 1970’s. It was called Harvest of the sea, or harvesting the seas or something similar. It described how we could use the ocean for future civilization, how its resources could be broken down and re-used. It briefly covered various types of technologies used on the ocean. I think the author was a doctor of some kind.

In the book, the author fancied that by the year 1990 or something like that we would have cities underwater etc…

It was a very entertaining read. Non-Fiction, just old. Help!

Sounds like something H.G. Wells would fancy… Let me know this author when you find it, sounds really intriguing indeed.

@marinelife That’s a bit too old.. though it does look entertaining. =) If I remember correctly the copyright was somewhere in the early 1970’s.

I’m thinking this may be it.. but the one I read definitely had a different cover. I really just wish I could find a picture of the exact thing I read. It’s just one of those things. Bugs me.

Here is a different cover for the book you linked. Is that the one you remember?

Oh! I just found another one. It’s still the same book, but it has a different cover.

@bobbinhood That’s it!! That’s the exact cover and book I read! This has been bothering me all day, you’re a lifesaver! =)

I’m glad I could help! Now I’m curious. Which cover did you have? The first one I linked, or the second one?

@bobbinhood The second one. I picked it up at a USO in Kuwait. I had a lot of waiting to do and it filled the void. It was pretty dry but I managed.. it has become sort of a point of nostalgia for me now.

You think you’re going to pick up another copy? I hate not having books on my shelf that have the nostalgia factor.

@bobbinhood I may at some point, but probably not until I’ve settled somewhere where a collection wouldn’t have to be moved from place to place.
