How freaking awesome is this abduction story?

“Kienan Hebert has returned just as mysteriously as he disappeared four days ago, with police saying that the three-year-old’s suspected abductor slipped unnoticed into the unoccupied Hebert house and left the todder there in the middle of the night.

Despite an intense manhunt, Randall Hopley, the sole suspect in Kienan’s kidnapping, continues to evade police, and was somehow able to reenter Sparwood, and the Hebert home, without RCMP catching sight of him. “Taking the child undetected and then placing him back undetected is a chilling prospect,” Cpl. Moskaluk said.”

I’ve never heard of a child being handed back after being abducted. I cannot imagine just how relieved his parents are.

Have you ever heard of something similar happening?

Now they just have to catch the perp.

“Kienan’s father, Paul Hebert, had repeatedly declared his conviction that his son would be returned, even as the kidnapping stretched to a distressing four days.”

That strikes me as a little, well, suspicious. I am so glad the kid is ok.

Either that or the Hebert’s house takes the cake for being the most stupidly open ever.

The father was in kahoots with the guy. They wanted to scam somebody out of some ransom money and split it. It’s Fargo, with the little boy being kidnapped instead and without Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare.~

This sounds like an inside job. Check the family finances.

You guys are soooo cynical!

I’ve been following this story since it happened. I really doubt there was collusion involved.

@tranquilsea I posted then thought: “when did I get so cynical?”

tranquilsea's avatar

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought it’s hard to live in this world and not be a bit cynical.

It’s Canada, people there are much more civil, so maybe the abductor brought the child back because he was done.

@inside_job I certainly hope this wasn’t some sort of inside job. If you read the article, it says that the kidnapper has a lengthy history of sex related crimes against children, and even did time for it in the past. His parents would be real pricks to team up with a guy like that.
At the very least, they could have picked a friend of theirs or something to act as a kidnapper.

But yeah, not the point. It’s nice hearing a story of the sort which has a happy ending. It’s indeed quite rare. Still creepy indeed though, how that guy is like a ninja. :/

Rather interesting.

@zenvelo “Because he was done” sounds more unnerving..

I have to admit, my first impression was pretty cynical. Makes you wonder, though. Glad the child is okay, hope they catch the guy. Wish more stories like this had a similar ending.

Plus the suspect tried to lure another child out of their home just days before this happened.

This is a parent’s worst nightmare and a nearly unbelievable ending.

This is not the baby from the movie The Incredibles is it?

filmfann's avatar

I am glad the child is home safe, but the story of a child being kidnapped is far from awesome, even if he is returned.

tranquilsea's avatar

I meant awesome that he was returned. It was horrifying that he was taken and no one really expected him to found alive.

I wouldn’t mind being trained by this guy to improve my ninja stealth skills. – first thought that came to mind.
