Do you use Logic Pro 9?

How do you like it compared to everything you’ve used in the past?

Used Logic Express 9, which is pretty much Logic Pro without Mainstage and the audio editor for live/studio stuff.

So far, it’s my favorite DAW I’ve used, but I don’t really have high hopes for Logic 10 or what Apple is doing with their pro software. Seeing how Final Cut Pro X turned out, I’m incredibly wary of sticking with it as a DAW as I just can’t see future versions being any good.

I’m sticking with Ableton Live for now, as it’s cross-platform as well.

@dverhey When you say without the “audio editor.” You mean the mixing and mastering board? Or can you also mix and master within Logic Express. ty!

@dreamwolf There’s a specific app (outside of Logic Express) that I’m thinking of I think. I’m not sure what the name of it is, but I believe the actual DAW application functionality is exactly the same in Express and Pro.

Probably means soundtrack pro, or waveburner for mastering and standalone editing.

Logic Pro for Mac users is tops compared to everything else out there. ProTools 9 is still playing catch-up, even though their HD solution is the standard for editing and audio post.

Music production, hands-down the most “swiss army” of DAWs. I used to use Digital Performer and ProTools before Apple bought out Emagic. As long as they don’t eliminate the environment window in X, logic should be fine in its next iteration. Hopefully they fix the time&pitch machine and bring it into the 21st century; however, the Flex tool is worth the investment alone, IMO.

@sndfreQ So you use WaveBurner for Mastering? Isn’t it also possible to bounce a bunch of tracks from a mix into an aiff? or mp3?

Yes it is, however, when mastering an album, Wave Burner allows you to fine-tune multiple tracks as a playlist, insert silence/gaps, and prep a CD master with the proper PQ codes for when it is tagged in CD databases and sold in other formats (iTunes, etc.).
