How long did a long or short bout of food poisoning last when you had it?

Asked by ZEPHYRA (21750points) September 13th, 2011

Besides the “emptying out” at both sides, what other symptoms did you have and how long did it last?

I poisoned myself (by accident of course), the sickness lasted for just overnight, the shitty feeling lasted a few days.

I’ve never had food poisoning last more than 24 hours. But it is not something to mess with. A friend ate some questionable salami one time, after 3½ days of very bad stomach problems, he ended up in the hospital for three days on IV antibiotics and fluids He’d lost 15 pounds.

There are varying intensities of food poisoning. I had a very severe case of food poisoning when I was in my early twenties. In hindsight, I should have been hospitalized. It was only the good health of my youth that allowed me to survive.

Symptoms: rapid and severe evacuation of all solids; extreme nausea; alternate chills and sweating (fever); weakness; faintness. Duration: symptoms lasted a week; weakness and general malaise lasted another two weeks.

I stress that this was a severe case, and several people who contracted it from the same restaurant were hospitalized.

The last solid I consumed before the onset was a mango, though the mango was not the cause. However, I could not eat a mango for almost three decades following the indicent.
