Do you find it creepy when someone comments on a question asked months ago?

Asked by EB_631 (405points) September 16th, 2011

When you get a notification that someone has comments on an old question—whether on your question or one you commented on— after the conversation has already developed and moved on, do you find it creepy and totally stalker-ish?

It could be different if nobody or very few commented on it, or if it was a factual question that never really got a direct answer to. But just an adverage “what’s your opinion?” question, do you see that as “This question has had it’s time….that is just weird..”?

Nope, I rather enjoy it actually. :)

Seeing how this site works and how the activity is mostly geared towards newer stuff that keeps coming in, sometimes it seems a bit odd, but not abnormal. I often check around in old ass questions and answer them.
When someone answers an old question of mine, I get all giddy lol. Nothing creepy there. Except for me getting giddy.

A month ago? Heck I’ve answered questions from years ago. I usually just read old threads. Every so often I run across one where I feel I must comment or update.

beccagolling's avatar

Not at all, I even go back to old questions myself sometimes. :)

JLeslie's avatar

Nope. It’s kind of neat when a Q wakes back up. What can be odd is when the person obviously read none of the responses and the answer itself is not a very interesting one.

Simone_De_Beauvoir's avatar

No really. I do this all the time.

FutureMemory's avatar

No. I think people should do it more often. In fact, I’m going to go look up questions from 2009 right now!!!!!!!!

EB_631's avatar

@FutureMemory haha, check the ‘related questions’ links. they’re all mostly from forever ago.

Ela's avatar

I just discovered this site so they are all new questions to me :) I did answer a question that was three weeks old and wondered if it was kosher. Since I didn’t get chastised, rebuked or openly laughed at… I assumed it was alright.

Welcome to Fluther.
No way, I love it… when it isn’t spam. Sometimes I forget about old discussions, and I love to see them pop up again. Usually when an old question pops up in my activity box, I assume it is spam. It’s refreshing when it isn’t.

SpatzieLover's avatar

Ha! I got one from 2006.

Berserker's avatar

@looking up old questions

There’s nothing wrong with looking back at old questions. And answering them, if you wish, is a good thing, even if you answered them before. Your views may have changed or you might want to state them more strongly. Look at all the questions that have been asked repeatedly across the ages. Does that falling tree in the forest make a sound if there is no one there to hear it? What does make the sky blue? How many angels fit on the head of a pin? As the asker of a question, I think you have to respect that someone wanted to answer it,no matter when.

Lightlyseared's avatar

I’ve left comments on questions asked years ago, to memebers that left years ago.

I love when old Qs come up again! Welcome to Fluther you guys, answer all those old ones you want, it’s fun to see new perspectives!

zensky's avatar

Sometimes you post to answer a specific question, but often you post to reveal something of yourself. In the latter case, time is not a factor.

JLeslie's avatar

@zensky So philosophical today.

zensky's avatar

You sed it.

wilma's avatar

No, I love it and do it often.
Welcome to the newbies!

HungryGuy's avatar

Of course not! That’s the great thing about Q&A (as opposed to chat rooms): threads live on and people can comment any time. That’s what makes Q&A sites like Fluther so popular and addictive, it’s so easy to find a topic that piques your interest and join in.

ucme's avatar

If the question is “Are you looking forward to christmas?”
A comment that’s posted in say, March/April time is going to look a little weird.

EB_631's avatar

thanks for the welcomes!

I see your points. Some people just ask really good questions and you just have to put your two cents in!

@ucme haha. Well, if you’re excited, you’re excited. Nothin wrong with that :D

ucme's avatar

@EB_631 There’s a very fine line between excitement & hysteria. I believe anyone who is looking forward to xmas at springtime suffers from the latter, but anyway.

EB_631's avatar

@ucme Mmm. Depends on the age. And theybcould have possibly just said that for laughs, depending on what they said.

ucme's avatar

ZZZzzzzzzz….......

EB_631's avatar

Heh alright then.

I don’t think it’s weird at all, I just figure that there’s a new crop of Jellies that are seeing the question for the first time. When I first joined, I went seeking questions that were up my alley. At first, I didn’t realize that they had a time signature (when the Q was posted) right up there at the top.

In a few instances, I have recalled old Q’s that I’ve posted on and then I found out some pertinent information that might be useful, even months later. In those cases, I’ll most likely also PM ther person who needs the info.

Dutchess_III's avatar

No..I just wonder where in the hell they found it!
Welcome to Fluther!

Ela's avatar

@Dutchess_III LOL I browse different topics, read through some threads and sometimes will find one I’d like to comment on. As a matter of fact… I just found one from April and was about to flip a coin as to whether I should post a reply ; )

Dutchess_III's avatar

Post! Post!

augustlan's avatar

Dooooo it!

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’m gonna go find me one too! diving in…

Ela's avatar

@Dutchess_III @augustlan Oh my…....... How’s the water? dips a toe in

Dutchess_III's avatar

It’s fine! Just takes a looong time to go back. I finally settled on one from May.

wilma's avatar

I usually find them over there on the right under “related” questions.

HungryGuy's avatar

@wilma – Good point! Fluther lists old questions that relate to the question you’re viewing, so it’s not uncommon for people to “find” those old questions and join in…

blueiiznh's avatar

Not creepy at all, and very welcomed. I will reanswer if I have an epiphany on something that I know I answed in the past in a different way.
I don’t think the Q&A is single point in time threads

XOIIO's avatar

Lol I caused a bunch more answrs on a question from ‘06 XD

Neizvestnaya's avatar

No. Most of the time I figure a new jelly is going through the questions suggestions at the right of current posts.

SpatzieLover's avatar

@Dutchess_III & @wilma If you click on @johnpowell‘s answer up above, you will get his randomizer and will be taken to an old thread. again, sheer genius ;)

Only138's avatar

@Symbeline I would love to see you all giddy. LMAO

Only138's avatar

I find it flattering that someone would unearth one of my old questions or answers. :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

Here’s the one I resurrected

Thanks Spatzie!.
