How to clean the inside of an oven without household cleaners, especially oven cleaners?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) September 18th, 2011

I would prefer not to use common cleaning supplies to clean my oven. What about a baking soda and hot water paste?

Most newer ovens have a “High Temperature” setting for cleaning. No chemicals should be used on a this type of oven, EVER!

1) Hire someone else to clean it.
2) Use the self clean setting.
3) sand blast it
4) have your cat or dog lick it clean
5) all of the above

I don’t think my oven has a self cleaning option.

How old is the oven?

My ovens in the 1970’s had clean setting.

I have no clue how old it is…it came with the condo. It doesn’t look terribly old.

@AshlynM If it doesn’t look too old, it should self clean…Try it on a day when you can open the windows.

Do you see a “door lock button” on it anywhere?
