What should I do with my old electronics?

Asked by JonnyCeltics (2721points) September 23rd, 2011

3 things I’m a bit dumbfounded as to what to do with. I feel like I should just trash ‘em but in this day and age, reselling them sometimes pays off.

- Canon digital camera, flash doesn’t work, but everything else does.
– Old toshiba laptop (like from 2006). It’s just old and broken. My fear is that someone will steal the hard drive and maybe there is some info on there or something I might want.
– 80GB ipod, this gen. just stopped working, red x, won’t reset.

So, I could go through hassle or just can ‘em. Thoughts? Something in between?

Update: It’s a Canon powershot a640.

Canon? Keep it. Use it.

Laptop? Have the hard drive removed, and the data recovered by a professional and put onto your new system (if you have one). Then trash it.

Ipod? Don’t know about that one. It’s probably 2 days outside of warranty isn’t it?

Take out the harddrive or use a scrubber program for the data.

Put this and the other items on Craigslist for “Best Offer”.

If no one responds in a realistic amount, put them into the Free section.

Another alternative for Free would be your local Freecycle.org group.
