Why not have Warren Buffett pay my taxes for me?

Asked by saint (3975points) September 27th, 2011

He thinks he doesn’t pay enough. Good for him. I think I pay too much. Sounds like a deal waiting to be made. He will be happy because he gets to pay more, I will be happy because I get to pay less. Maybe all of us folks who are not rich can find a tax sugar daddy.

It’s hard to take this question seriously due to the high level of sarcasm. Do you have an actual, realistic question lol?

He doesn’t know you well enough? Lol.

Well, let’s see. If the deal is revenue neutral, I trust you would share the benefit with all the other tax payers who want to pay less. Or is this only for you?

Let me ask you another question. Would you rather reduce your taxes or see those potholes in the street outside your house filled? You know, the once that are destroying your suspension and are going to cause you a 1000 dollar repair bill soon. You know, you’d be getting a $10 refund at the hands of Buffet.

What do you say Buffet and all the others in his income bracket pay a little more?

@wundayatta
Because it will change nothing. If you give the government a dime or a million dollars, they will squander it. All it does it make the president look good to some of his envious constituents. If Warren Buffett wants to give it up let him, that is his business. All he has to do is not take deductions or even make a contribution to the treasury. But at the moment, the economy sucks because nobody is spending or lending money. The only people who have anything to spend are rich. I would like them to stay that way. Maybe they will buy something from me.

The fact that most of his income is from long-term capital gains and thus only taxed at 15% is not a deduction. His taxes would not go up appreciably even if he didn’t claim a single deduction.

Also, if giving money to rich people increases spending, why is there so much unsold stock? What has been going on with consumer spending these last few years? Where are the jobs that were supposed to come from their investing?

You’re right. Tax them. We’ll all feel better. We need a scapegoat.

He makes money on long-term capital gains tax and his salary is nothing to him (even though its several hundred thousand/year). @jerv got it right. Buffett is one of Obama’s puppets.
