I am always snacking when I’m doing my homework. What’s the best thing to eat while doing it?

Protein. And since you are a growing girl, you should add calcium rich foods to your snacks, too…If you picked yogurt, for example, you’d boost your brain power and get your needed calcium.

Low-fat protein sources. Protein can be obtained from a number of foods, including skinless poultry and lean meat.
Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant contained in red meat and organ meats such as liver.

Lots of water. your brain is 85% water. Keep hydrated.

@Judi to be more exact, depending on the individual, and the size of their brain, it is more like 70 to 78% max. 85% is a little too high.

Try to eat whole foods and foods that are minamally processed. Avoid most foods that are full of chemicals and preservatives, and avoid foods that contain lots of sugar or salt.

Some best bets are unsalted nuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, dried fruits, tiny pieces of dark chocolate (instead of milk chocolate) with at least 70% cacao, eat a few raw mushrooms (of any kind, try some different ones like those cute itty bitty Enoki Mushrooms. Unsalted tortilla chips cooked with expeller pressed monsaturated oil (instead of partially hydrogenated oil) with some fresh salsa, or raw fresh veggies such as carrots, cauliflower, red bell peppers, celery, broccoli and asparagus with some dip made from non-fat plain yogurt, or some of Trader Joe’s fat free spicy black bean dip, or some hummus.

NCIS is coming on in four minutes. Back later, with more ideas : )

A bowl of raw string beans or peas in the pod that you can shell without looking, or peanuts in the shell. You can’t eat 1000 of these in one mouthful.

My new favorite beverage is 10 oz. of water with ice cubes, 2 t. of organic cider vinegar and a large splash of organic Concord grape juice. There are also wonderful dark chocolate covered almonds.

Actually the foods that are best for brain function are anything that contain the amino spectrum which believe it or not, are best found in not only fish oils, & nuts, but white foods, and the breads and grains that we aren’t supposed to have on low carb diets.

2 + 2 = 4 *We NEED to eat what we do, just not quite so much.

@blueberry_kid Here’s a horror story for you.I worked in an office and at certain times of the year we worked really long hours until we were exhausted. Well, I had a client that was a research doctor. He was a sharp guy. He and his wife went scuba diving while on vacation, and something went wrong with his gear and he nearly drowned. He suffered permenant brain damage and had to get retrained as a massage technician. He lost his intellect that much. They came into the office when I was really tired. I was eating some mixed nuts for my brain food. I offered them the nuts and said “Would you like some brain food?”. Guess who I never saw in the office again? I was so tired I didn’t realize what I said for a few days.
