Californians does it benefit to be married when applying for financial aid?

Asked by whitetigress (3129points) October 22nd, 2011

I’m 23 planning to get married soon. I attend college. I have no job. I’m going to get married anyways. But will there be any positive financial aid news? Or will the amount that my spouse make be directly reflected as my income thus resulting in me perhaps getting lower income. She only makes about 24K.

I think so. I think they don’t take your parent’s income into consideration if you’re married.

@Judi Oh yes and already I am considered an independent. If that helps any.

Then they WILL take your spouses income into consideration, but I doubt she makes enough to disqualify you.
