(Extremely NSFW) What are your views on this video?

Asked by Prosb (4286points) October 22nd, 2011

A friend of mine linked this music video on Facebook a few days ago, and some have been discussing what it represents in terms of a girl’s fear of peer pressure, sex, and pregnancy.
What is your take on what this video is trying to say?
(NOTE: This video may be extreme for some of you, so watch with caution!)

I think it’s really cool and artsy. I can see it has a lot of symbolism, and is most likely based from Japanese animation, (more so in its presentation than anything else, and I don’t just mean monster rape) but I’m not sure I really understand said symbolism much.

Seems the black haired girl isn’t sure of what the brown haired girl is so sure of, and just does as her instinct emotions tells her, (like the other girl, what fuckery, I’m confused) rather than to follow some strong societal rule, but without really knowing it. I don’t mean she’s stupid, but rather, really in tune with herself and whatever she’s been taught. Too bad for the brown haired girl that she wasn’t as such. It’s a very pretty video, but also quite sad, at least from that which I’ve derived. The victim is the brown haired girl, despite the video’s ending. (which seems to have been cut off at the pass for me)

I think there is a lot of peer pressure content here, and the video seems to do a good job of showing giving in, and not giving in. With two characters taking both opposite ends. (I couldn’t understand three quarters of the lyrics though) I think that guy trying to kiss the black haired girl is prolly a lot of symbolism too, when he found himself unkissed.

Not sure much as to the meaning, but I liked this a lot. Although the end of it looked a lot like a final boss in a Final Fantasy game lol.

My take is that anybody who focuses on the peer pressure, teen sex angle has an unhealthy obsession. Then again, I don’t feel like everything has deep morals, hidden meanings, or multi-layered messages.

I don’t get it anything from it, but I’m not an art person. I got lost once the people turned into monsters. Sorry I couldn’t help.

Don’t do anything unless you have an exit strategy. Like for example sneaking into pools when one is too short to get out without assistance from someone untrustworthy.

Lightlyseared's avatar

Don’t sneak into pools at night. Full stop. It’s such a staple of the horror genre it was obvious where it was going from the moment you saw the empty pool.

Ayesha's avatar

I don’t like it.

@jerv I would disagree that anyone who focuses on the peer pressure/sex angle has an unhealthy obsession. It’s definitely a part of the story before it goes all crazy. After the craziness starts, then I can accept that someone might think it’s not there. That’s part of the joy of hidden meanings and multi-layered messages; you can read as much or as little into it as you like. It could be it was just done for shock, with no agenda, but that is really up to the watcher to decide. I don’t think it’s right to say someone has an unhealthy obsession just because they wish to read more into it than you do though.

It’s just a fantasy video like all the Japanese anime.

Very nice animation!! I think the story about a young virgin girl’s fear of sex. Not sure about the ending though, she went through another world but she saw a bigger more powerful horrible monster… does that mean she found sex even more horrible after experiencing it?

CaptainHarley's avatar

Frickkin’ weird! I can see how it might represent a young woman’s fears about sex, but it certainly takes a bizzare way of expressing them.

I never understood the Japanese fixation on tentacles.
The video is fine, but the music sucks.

Never attend a Tommy Lee pool party kids, it could prove harmful.

Just as a note, this is by a French artist, not Japanese. (That is also why it’s so hard to understand most of the words)

HungryGuy's avatar

Ooh! That video would make a great premise for a horror video game!

Berserker's avatar

I caught that is wasn’t Japanese. But if I have to guess, the animation is highly influenced by anime. If I was able to catch more of the lyrics though, maybe I’d understand a bit more what it’s talking about. (they’re in English, but goddamn, can that singer be anymore droney?) I can’t find the lyrics anywhere online.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

If you ignore the lyrics and just pay attention to the music and the symbolism it’s pretty wild. I’m going to watch it a few times, but it’s a nice play on sex, the risks, and the fears people have towards sex.

Hibernate's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe while what you said is true I’m not so sure so many are afraid of something they never tried. Using this logic we should be afraid of many things. The risks are there but if people would first read the practice it they could see it’s nothing to be afraid of.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Hibernate Study people for a bit. Fear of the unknown is very prevalent in some people. Not all, but it’s out there.

Hibernate's avatar

Yes I know. I am afraid of the unknown too. But only things I haven’t tried and I know they involve high risks. I liked to parachute from a plane but I was scared of doing bunje [will I tried it once after I overcame my fear]. I liked to fly with the [I forget the exact term now .. it’s like a parachute but it has a small engine and you can fly a bit before landing] yet I am still scared of flying with a Helicopter :D
Sex is frightening but only if you don’t know what’s the deal with it.

I know a guy that forced me to view this, I could only imagine who it was, but other then that, good video nice music.

Berserker's avatar

@HungryGuy Well then my friend, you should try Obscure. Well actually that game’s a lot more like Demolition Man, but with teenagers. And schools without janitors.

HungryGuy's avatar

@Symbeline – As soon as I read your answer, I rushed over to Amazon to order Obscure. Then saw it’s for the PS2. I have a PS1 and a PS3, but not a PS2.

Berserker's avatar

Ah, crap. Well, the PS3 is supposed to be compatible with some PS2 games, depending on when you got your PS3…I wouldn’t chance it unless you knew for sure though.

It’s not a particularly good game…but it looks damn creepy and it’s pretty violent. Was worth it for me just for that, anyway.

HungryGuy's avatar

@Symbeline – I thought so, too, when I bought my PS3. That was one of Sony’s marketing ploys: “The PS3 plays all previous PS games, whereas the NextBox doesn’t play Xbox games.” Sony lied. Sony is a big corporation. Why should I be surprised? :-p

BTW, I just bought Dead Island! Woot! I haven’t played it yet. Why? I misplaced my wireless PS3 controller. It’s buried under a pile of crap in my living room somewhere :-p

Berserker's avatar

Ha, yeah. Instead, they have PS1 Classics you can buy on the PSN. Yeah well, what if I wanted to play a PS1 game that they didn’t include? Fuckballs. They started adding PS2 games…I doubt Obscure will ever make it, though.

HungryGuy's avatar

@Symbeline – Well, if you say it’s not a good game, I’ll pass then. I still love the Resident Evil games. Sometimes I’ll just stand there and wait for a Hunter Gamma to show up so I can watch a young pretty girl get swallowed alive as she kicks her legs helplessly :-p

Berserker's avatar

Yeah, the controls for Obscure piss me off. Otherwise though…and whatever you’re talking about, I’d play it. :D

HungryGuy's avatar

@Symbeline – You’ve never played a Resident Evil game? Some of the monsters will grab you, shove you in their mouths, and slowly swallow you alive while you kick and struggle. Gruesome fun :-p

Berserker's avatar

Oh, yeah I played some. Went through number two, played a bit of three, four and five. Never saw those guys though. I think I know what you’re talking about though, saw some RE monsters eating characters on a YT video that was showing random vore stuff. Do they look kinda like big frogs?

HungryGuy's avatar

Big frogs? LoL That would be the Hunter Gamma…
