NaNoWriMo 2011: Who's participating?

Every year I hear about it when it already has started two weeks prior and then I think that next year I might give it a try.
This is the one where you ‘have to’ write each day for thirty days at an end (and a minimum of words)?
I started photographing my sunflower some six weeks ago, every day at the same time.
This was to see if I could do something that I (would) like doing for thirty days consecutively.
So I might as well really give it a try this time (the writing).
Don’t ask me about it, please, though, I can’t handle that outside pressure.
I will tell about it after I finished it (or didn’t finish).

I want to write fiction at some point but NaNoWriMo just doesn’t cut it for me motivation-wise.

I always say I will do this, but I can’t write something once. I started writing something 6 months ago and am only on the 2nd chapter. The first chapter has 4 different versions. I don’t know which one I like more.
It is now my not-so-new-year resolution to finish the book this month!

Number 1 from my thirty days photo project.

I succeeded in 2009 but only by taking a two week holiday from work and writing 75% of the novel during those two weeks. On work days I just don’t have enough time, and there aren’t enough non-working days for me to manage it. This year I can’t get the time off, but I will be writing something during the month even if it’s not a full novel.

I have thought about challenging myself to write a novel in 15 weekends, which amounts to pretty much the same amount of time.

I completed it two year ago. Actually, I topped out at 55,000 words.

What was it like, for those of you who did it? Where did you find time? How did you keep going? Where did your ideas come from?

I have never been able to pick up something I wrote yesterday and add onto it today. Never. That’s why I like fluther. No continuity is required. Also, I’ve never had any novel length ideas. Which makes me wonder how you approach nanowrimo. I guess only novelists would do it. It’s not something one would try just because they wish they could write a novel.

So tell, someone!

I did it last year for my creative writing class, and while I didn’t hit the mark, I did manage to complete a sixty page long story at approximately 36,000 words. Not quite the goal, but still very time consuming!

I’m not sure if I’ll attempt again this year. Probably not. It was fun, but I don’t know if I’ll have the time or an idea for a story.

@wundayatta I have a lot different ideas for books. I picked one and just started writing. I had never done something like this before that time and I learned a lot about how I need to organize my thoughts and ideas before I start writing.

I found that writing first thing in the morning was the best time for me. I made a pledge to write 1667 words a day. Many days I wrote enough to go far beyond that goal and that made it easier on days when I had a hard time coming up with anything.

The junior nanowrimo has a great “dare” button on the home page of their site that you can press and incorporate into your story. It’s good for jump starting you when you can’t think of anything. Some guy has written a piece of software that you can use that will start deleting what you have already written if you don’t start typing again. Also, the nanowrimo site has a great community of people who can help you out with all aspects of surviving the nanowrimo experience.

Last year I found little time to write. This year, I don’t stand a chance. If I do end up writing anything, I’ll keep Fluther posted, but I anticipate being little more than a cheerleader this time around to those creative minds with cogs well greased and turning.
