What is the well dressed zombie wearing these days?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) October 26th, 2011

My 9 year-old wants to be a zombie for Halloween and I am looking to put a costume together on the cheap. I am therefore turning to The Collective for some brilliant ideas.

Plain white t-shirts are nice for zombie costumes. They are cheap, you can put holes in them and stain them easily with fake blood and/or dirt, and can be worn over a long sleeved shirt in case it’s chilly where you live. Easily paired with jeans, either an old pair or a cheap pair picked up at a thrift shop, which can also be torn and stained. Easy peezy.

Black makeup on the face and dirt. If he has old jeans, holes in the jeans. Not too much fake blood, though. Zombies look more decayed than bloody.

The clothes are less important than the face, I think. They can just be old, dirty, and ripped. Use green and white face make-up, with a little black for under eye shadows and cheek hollows. A dab of ‘blood’ around the mouth is good, too.

I was a zombie some years ago, and wore jeans with holes in them and an old t-shirt. Nothing you can’t get at a thrift store. I think the ‘special effects’ are the most important part.

I painted fake blood on my knee and numerous people throughout the day (I did all of the painting early in the day and put the actual zombie clothes on later) asked what happened to my knee. Victory.
