Does anybody have Dungeons and Dragons character information that I can use?

Asked by jellyfish3232 (1852points) November 1st, 2011

I don’t know if this this is altogether legal, but I’ve been looking into playing D&D, and I need some rather vital information from the character books. You see, I bought the “Dungeon Master Kit” and the “Rules Compendium” thinking that that was all that I would need to get started. Not surprisingly, I screwed up again. Apparently I need to buy “Heros of the Fallen Lands” or “Heros of the Forgotten Kingdoms” as well (Or both). I have an associate coming here tomorrow to design a character with me, so I need to get the base data for the races that we want to use. If one of you happens to have these books, or can direct me to a website with the information, it would be greatly appreciated. If it helps, I am playing 4th generation, and the races we are interested in are Drow and Dwarf. Others include Elf, Dragonborn, and Human, but anything would be helpful. Thank you!

For a quick reference that might help you, you can check out the D&D Wiki. I use that when I’m looking for things in a pinch and don’t have my player manuals handy.

When and if you decide to get some more manuals for the 4th edition rules, look for the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual. Make sure they are for the 4th edition rules if that’s what your group is playing.

As far as the copyright concerns, my books say you can copy select pages related to character development for your personal use. So unless that has changed you are probably ok with getting copies of the information you need, as long as it is for personal private use.

I have a digital copy of every book that I’d be glad to give you.
Unfortunately, they are all 3.5 edition.

@Prosb
The rules in 3.5 are probably quite similar, any information regarding character statistics would be optimal, even if it is slightly outdated. Would you mind uploading a few pages?

4th edition and 3.5 are VERY different.

If it were 3 and 3.5, you’d be right, @jellyfish3232 . But unfortunately they did a huge rewrite for 4.0.

Tell your friends to play Pathfinder, which is basically 3.5 still being published. 3.5 was a MUCH better game.

@keobooks is right; the system changed drastically between 3.5 and 4, so most 3.5 content wont be of any use to you. And unfortunately the wiki that @Seaofclouds mentioned only has home-brew content for 4.

What I can offer you is this site, which is a good source for all the 3.5 core content.

@jellyfish3232 Ah yes, I forgot to mention that. I apologize. You’d think that they’d be similar, being that they’re only .5 of an edition apart, but they are vastly different.
3.5 edition was much better than 4th in my opinion, but I hear that for people playing for the first time, they more easily grasp 4th than 3.5.

@keobooks + @Foolaholic Thanks for clearing that up.
