A question for the male Jellies (concerning testicular cancer).

Asked by rebbel (35549points) November 7th, 2011

Yesterday I watched a program on health, in which the subject testicular cancer was raised.
More precise, preventing that the cancer can spread, by observing
it in time (It can strike in men, mainly between the ages of 20 and 40, according to the show. Websites state the from age of 15).
To do that, men could/should do self-examination of their testicles once a month/six weeks.
So, I did it.
Are/were you aware?
Do you examine?
Will you?
Self-Examination

Yes, I’m aware, and I don’t thinked it should be labelled NSFW. It’s too important.

I’ve been aware for a long time & yes, I do it.
It’s more fun when the wife checks for me though, a purely medical procedure of course ;¬}

Some how I highly doubt that there is much chance that I would go a full month without feeling up my plumbs.

I am aware of the risk of cancer, and I know that at 28 I should be checking, but in all honesty, I really don’t know what I’m looking for. I Have had a feel around in the past, and found something, and gone to the doctor, and been told “no dude, thats just part of your balls”.

Am I looking for actual lumps on the testicle? or in the general sack area? I don’t know. I just know what they feel like, and what they have felt like for a long time, and I just keep and eye out that nothing changes. As far as I can tell, everything is in order.

@Adirondackwannabe I agree on the importance, that is why I also think it is SFW…, thanks.
@ucme I didn’t want to make my question NSFW, so I didn’t put in the details that I received some help ;-)
@poisonedantidote I have no idea how your feeling the plumbs is working (so it could be you already do it good), but I would check the link I provided, because there is a difference between ‘feeling your balls’ and examine your balls.
I experienced it as something quite different.

@poisonedantidote You should do it in the shower. The warm water helps and just look for any irregularities.I read about one tumor within the teste that the Dr picked up because one was a little larger than the other.

@rebbel No need for the silly nsfw label, as I say, purely medical :¬)

When I was in my twenties my then BIL got it and luckily beat it. I got a first hand reporting on just how unfun that disease was. I did the self exams ever since.

Yes, I’m aware of the self-examination and yes, I have done it before. However, I know I don’t do it as often as I should…

I have a hydrocele, which makes this very difficult.
