Would these haircuts look good on me?

Asked by NostalgicChills (2787points) November 8th, 2011

I’m being pulled two directions with making the decision of cutting my hair. The first time I cut it short, it was a disaster; (mostly because I straightened my hair excessively) But a year after I got it cut short, I decided to stop straightening my hair, so now its back to it’s original wavy form. I spent three years trying to grow my hair out and it seems to be nearing it’s terminal length, so I really want a change. But I don’t know how a short hair style will look with wavy hair (considering my waves are extremely inconsistent) and my oval shaped head.

Here’s a picture of me:

I realize I’m not the most photogenic person :I

And here are some pictures of the hairstyles/lengths I had in mind:

OR—- Do you think I could ever pull off this next one:

Thank you for your opinions, I greatly appreciate it!

I vote for the first one.

The one Anne has, I like that one. But the thing is, you’re going to have to work on it a lot. You can’t just get away by brushing them. You’re going to have to blow dry regularly or style them in a wavy way, as in the picture. If you’re up for that it’s a really good look. Plus you have a long face, short is a good idea.

Okay thanks everyone!
Here’s a better picture of my face shape if that helps too:

Don’t get them too short. Keep ‘em slightly longer. Slightly.
You’ll look very pretty!

I think you should keep your current hair, but that’s just my opinion. If not, then 1 or 2.

I like having fun with This virtual makeover you can put your own picture in and actually TRY ON the haircut! (The second opic is a perfect one to use as your hair is back and it is straight on.)

NostalgicChills's avatar

@Judi Funny you should mention that, it’s what I’m doing now xD

1 and 2 are the same cut… 1’s just fluffed up a bit.

I like picture #2. They’re all super pretty though. I think you’ll look great.

Actually, no. Both pictures were taken at different times of the year. One is shorter, one is longer.

I like the second one. It’s super cute, and would look good on you. :)

You are a beautiful woman. Your hair is lovely. Regardless of what you decide, your hair will grow back. If you like the cut you have to maintain the cut. If you don’t like the cut, it won’t last forever. Just don’t go too short. You have a slender long face and I think it should be kept long around your face. Don’t forget when you get a good deal of length cut, the weight of your hair will be lifted and your hair will be fuller and any natural curl or body will be enhanced.

Either leave your hair alone or go for number 3.

Number 3 would look great on you.

i agree with @john65pennington 100%. I think Anne looks terrible with that “haircut”. It just looks like an unkempt mess.

I like your hair as it is now. The third option might look good too though :)

I put in my vote for Number 2!

Number 2. I think you should stay longish, at least hitting your shoulder, because your face is long.

Male opinion. I like the first two (in fairness I’m a bit biased cuz I <3 Anne Hathaway).

I do not like the third one that much, and moreover I don’t think it would look good on you.

Don’t be too hasty to cut though, your hair is already very pretty.

I think Number 3 would look better on you. The texture of your hair seems the same as mine. The looks that Anne has can easily go from slightly unkept but cute to really fluffy and sloppy.
Number 3 will also play up your eyes and your nicely shaped brows.
You also have a heart shape face so the cut will give your chin a softer rounder look. (Nothing wrong with your chin. Just pointing out that the cut will flatter it rather than enhance it.)
Annes haircut will make your face look long and thin and may be a bit harsh for your face.
I agree with @john65pennington
(chanting) NO.3, No.3. No.3
Bye the way. To avoid getting a haircut from someone who isn’t skilled with your hair type, look in the salon for someone who has your hair texture. That is what I had to start doing. People with really straight hair usually don’t know how to really deal with people with some body to their hair.
If they do have straight hair, I find they may know if their nationality tends to have more body than is straight. Hispanics usually grow up dealing with the largest variety of hair textures.

I think you look great just the way you are. But I’m a pretty simple person when it comes to hair.

If you really want to cut it, I’d go for the first style. You could also just have a good stylist trim your hair to change the shape a bit for a subtle change. And stay away from that flat iron!

#3

And I say that using a very simple criteria. Which will be the easiest to maintain the look? It is easy to have someone spend a hour making your hair look like any of those. But will/can you spend a hour everyday recreating it?

#3 seems easiest to reproduce.

I have the same shape face as yours and what I’ve found through the years is that our face shape looks good with any current in style medium to long hairstyle..
I’ve had my hair every way under the sun.

I have learned that extremely short does not look good on an oval shaped face.

I also have hair like yours, wavy I personally hate it and my daughter hates her wavy locks too

I find unless it is extremely boy short that the #1 haircut won’t go that way..maybe you are the same but for me I always get cow licks and I hate that too and then your stuck going back to the straightener..which I myself am totally over. I also need a haircut and have been pondering the same thing.

For you I say defiantly Anne Hathaway haircut, that would look beautiful on you.

Btw welcome to Fluther! :)

Well, you’ve had votes for all three. Reason for cutting it at all: easier upkeep. I worry #3 will over power your face, but I’d try it first. Then #1 and then #3 because #1 can grow out to # 1 and them #3. You’re not stuck with a hairdo forever. Hair grows out no matter what you do.

I can’t improve much on @bkcunningham ‘s answer. Be sure to go to a stylist who knows your hair’s characteristics and your lifestyle.

Your face shape can have any cut you like.

#1 looks like it would have the most versatility for your type of hair.
