How can I raise money?

Asked by Trance24 (3311points) May 13th, 2008

I have a job but it is only on the weekends, I am only 17 right now. I can not work during the week because of sports, and other school related activities. But I want a easy way to raise some money on the side, that doesn’t require a lot of my schedule to be moved around.

Babysitting, Running errands for the elderly, Washing old people’s pets. Put up some flyers around the neighborhood listing your skills and hours of availablity. Be creative. You’ll find lots of things you can do! Oh, and you could help younger kids with their homework too!

Do you have a craft or talent? Can you draw? Do you make awesome jewelry or clothes? Write a great calligraphy hand? Perhaps there is something you could make and sell. To friends and schoolmates, on eBay, etc.

Come to that, you could if you have computer skills put things on eBay for others who are not inclined that direction.

When going through college I used to do well hitting yard sales and reselling small items on Ebay.

The trick is:

Know what you are buying- be sure it has resale value and is in good shape
Get it cheap
Make sure it is easy to ship- light and small
Be sure to list accurate shipping
Ship right away.

I used this formula:
Buy it for x start auction at 2x
As an example I would buy an item for $1.00 and start the auction at $2.00 and
run it 7 days.

I paid for my new car payments every month this way about 7 years ago. Provided Ebay is still a hot marketplace it is easy to do and can be done in your spare time.

When I was in high school I used to give young kids ice hockey lessons. If you play sports and are pretty good at one of them try to find young kids trying to learn the sport you play. Its good practice for you and a fun way to make some cash.
