The Romans were pretty good at that, as were the English. Anybody specific though, not sure…
There was also Napoleon, who held sway over his objectives, but not for very long.

I’m also really wanting to mention Vlad the Impaler, even though he wasn’t a conqueror. But it’s crazy to think that a small time ruler like him managed to fight off enemies with psychological warfare (when by all rights, their sheer numbers should have overwhelmed him) and keep the peace in his lands, even if it was through fear.

As for actual conquerors, I don’t know. Again, the Romans had Julius Caesar, who I guess was pretty badass in that respect.

Here’s a random list of top ten greatest rulers. (hitler wtf)

Hitler had all of Western Europe and North Africa for a while. Didn’t last long, though. But extra points for holding most of the First World for a time.

The Persian empire was huge around 500 BC. Dunno if a single conqueror was responsible.

And how about that Genghis Khan fella?

Alexander the Great, who died at 32 but whose name is now immortal, did all of his conquering in the span of only 13 years. To have done so much in so brief a period indicates a great conquerer – to me, anyway.

He was also Aristotle’s pupil!

I might have said Alexander the Great, but can’t pass up the opportunity to say Genghis Khan!

Hannibal was great too. Imagine leading elephants over the Pyrenees and the Alps?? Supposedly he was one of the greatest tacticians ever, on a par with Alexander the Great.
