What is your favorite quote?

Asked by JessicaRabbit (383points) November 17th, 2011

What is your favorite quote?
I find some quotes can be a little confusing, so the meaning would be great as well.

Thanks Jellies =)

“Every atom in your body came from a star that exploded. And, the atoms in your left hand probably came from a different star than your right hand. It really is the most poetic thing I know about physics: You are all stardust. You couldn’t be here if stars hadn’t exploded, because the elements – the carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, iron, all the things that matter for evolution and for life – weren’t created at the beginning of time. They were created in the nuclear furnaces of stars, and the only way for them to get into your body is if those stars were kind enough to explode.” -Lawrence M. Krauss

I’m not sure it requires explanation, but it is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard.

“Nothing beautiful is ever perfect” is another that I’ve loved for many years. I think it’s true.

“No one knows what’s next, but everybody does it” – George Carlin

You will have to make up your own mind on it’s meaning, I think he just intended to be humorous, but being the clever guy that he was, it would not surprise me if there is more to it.

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

@ANef_is_Enuf That is amazingly beautiful. My attitude sucks today and I was thinking my quote would be “Bite Me”, but that’s a nice pick me up. That’s awesome. All of the other quotes are nice, too.

@JessicaRabbit That made me smile. Thanks.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
~Marianne Williamson

I don’t think this is necessarily my all-time favorite, but it’s one that I’ve quite enjoyed as of late. It’s actually a song lyric.

Right now…

Van Damme asks Winston if he can take him up to Xian’s so he can learn muay thai kickboxing. He asks him if they can go right now. To which Winston replies…

Now?! Fuuuuck now, goin’ drinkin’ now.

That always cracks me up. Not really on topic, but I’ve been dying to expose the quote for like, a day.

Really what? But yeah, I find it hilarious. That is all.
