What are your favorite appetizers with meat?

Asked by marinelife (62485points) November 24th, 2011

I am planning the menu for a party, and I need another meat appetizer. I want something that can be made ahead.

I was thinking of sliced steak on French bread rounds with horseradish sauce and wasabi sauce.

I always love Italian dry Salami on crackers with creme cheese and sliced olives.
Or, you could use thinly sliced baguette rounds.

Or, salami / creme cheese roll ups of the same with olives attached with toothpicks

There’s always the pot of swedish meatballs too and one I also like with Tuna fish stuffed jalapenos with crushed whte tortilla chips. Sounds strange but they are delicious. You clean and halve whole, canned, jalapenos, stuff with tuna salad and sprinkle the crushed chips on top.

Your appetizer idea sounds good too but is more work. haha

I love both of those ideas :)

One side that my significant other’s mother makes often is mini bell peppers stuffed with gouda and pieces of bacon. She heats them up in the toaster oven. They’re delicious and add colour to the dinner table (which her husband loves.)

Pigs in a blanket which is just the little wieners wrapped in biscuit dough.

It depends how casual the party is. If it is quite chilled out then I love potato skins with bacon but I don’t think that really works if it is quite a formal do.

Rumaki. There are several ways to make it: bacon wrapped around water chestnuts are typical, but I like them especially when they include chicken livers (marinated in soy sauce) also wrapped around the water chestnut and all wrapped with a bacon strip and cooked until the bacon is done. Amazing.

My vote is for Argentinia Empanadas which are basically meat, or vegetable filled turnovers. This site has several different potential fillings for you to choose from. My aunt (who is from Ecuador, originally) makes these whenever she hosts Thanksgiving at her house. She usually makes one with a semi-spicy meat filling and one with spinach and cheese filling (especially for me, the veg-head). They are amazing!

If you find it too daunting to make your own dough, you can simply used pre-made pie crusts and cut them into 3 inch circles.

Plus they’re just so cute

You don’t need a dip with empanadas, but if you want to make a couple, here is one for an Avocado Sauce and here’s a set of Three Delicious Empanada Dips

I used to really like ‘sausage rolls’. It’s a thing from New Zealand. Spiced sausage meat wrapped in filo/puff pastry. http://tvnz.co.nz/masterchef-masterclass/masterclass-episode-five-sausage-rolls-4036897

My grandma used to make these. You take a slice of ham or salami, spread it with softened cream cheese and lay a (trimmed, clean) green onion on top. Roll the meat around the onion like a log, and slice into bite-size bits. Yum.

I almost forgot about Fresh Spring Rolls with Chicken these can be assembled ahead of time.
