Techie Google question - Why didn't this chat save?

Usually my chats in Gmail save automatically to a Chat folder. Yesterday I had a chat with someone who was added from G+ to my chat contacts and that chat didn’t save. Do I need to specifically invite them in Gmail for it to save? This is not a big deal but I am wondering…...

Hmm- they never have before; we used to chat when it was GMail invite only and it saved. Maybe.
