Is it Okay for a cat to eat peas?

Asked by Cinamingrl (82points) November 30th, 2011

My Maine Coon Cat loves peas, especially split pea soup. She also loves tuna, even more than peas. But her tuna also gives her diarrhea. So I mix canned peas with her tuna, and she loves it. She eats all of it. And the peas with the tuna keep the diarrhea away. Is is okay for her to eat peas, she loves them. She also likes spinach.

To the best of my knowledge peas are not toxic to cats. I wouldn’t give her too much, though, cats are carnivores.

Yes it is okay. My cat’s old diet consisted of fresh fish, peas and sometimes carrots. She was all about it.

As long as they aren’t coated in chocolate.

Well, my older cat (14 yrs ) has always eaten peas & carrots, she almost has a fetish for carrots; rubbing her face all over them before she eats them :-/
Still, balanced with meat & dry food too, she’s still going strong & so are the farts :-)
She eats cauliflower too & potato btw……

Oh thanks everybody! She also loves eggs. She used to even like the liquid egg in a carton.
