Asked by emeraldisles (1949points) December 8th, 2011

I specifically need the steps to performing an assay or websites that go into detail about the steps required to do one. Thank you.

You need to provide more info than that. What are you trying to do? Detect taurine levels?

I’m trying to determine the concentration of taurine in energy drinks and sodas. I need to perform an assay as well as make a standard curve to compare my samples of known concentration to unknown concentration.

I think taurine may be UV active relative to the other ingredients in the drink then. Perhaps you can use spectrophotometry to measure at A260 wavelength.

Here is an article describing high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with integrated pulsed amperometric determination of taurine levels.

You can probably just use the basic steps in ion chromatography for your homework assignment though.

Thank you. This is a project I’m performing.
