What personal character traits annoy you sufficiently that you avoid that person?

Asked by Sunny2 (18842points) December 8th, 2011

I find some character traits extremely annoying: constant complaining; self righteousness; non-stop talking; always being late; being overly judgmental. I guess you’d call them pet peeves. I find myself reacting so negatively to people with these traits that it affects what I think of them and how much I will tolerate them in my life. Anybody else want to spout off on this subject?

Someone that thinks they know it all.

People who are late. People who smell. People who are stupid. People who are smart. People who are smug. That’s about it. Oh, and LIars and thieves. Ok, rapists and murderers.

Sunny2's avatar

@chyna I agree with you.

@zensky I think you should have more tolerance for liars. Otherwise, I agree with you. Some people have to lie, you know. Like about Santa Claus.

zensky's avatar

What? Wait? What about Santa Clause?!?

YoKoolAid's avatar

People who have the ”I tell it how it is and if you don’t like it tough shit” attitude.

zensky's avatar

@YoKoolAid You mean jellies?

Sunny2's avatar

@zensky Nothing. Nothing! Forget I even mentioned it!

@YoKoolAid I run from them too. Fast.

Overly opinionated.
Overly formal.

@Haleth @digitalimpression It’s funny, but I get visual images from your words. Your individuals sound like they should get together. They’d be a really impossible couple and would be so smug. I hate them.

People who demand their own choices. (“No, I don’t want Hunan. I want spicy Szechuan! You can just put up with spicy food! It won’t kill you!”)

People who are too loud.

SavoirFaire's avatar

People who like to be opinionated without being informed.

mallei's avatar

People who just repeat opinions they hear on talk shows.

jonsblond's avatar

People who act all tough and shitty and like to poke others because they had a shitty childhood. Guess what? Life is hard, you don’t have to be an ass to everyone. Grow up. You’re not special.

I feel better now that I have gotten that off my chest!

I loathe pretentiousness.

I pretty much try my best to avoid the right wing at all costs. Even so much that it cost me my last two jobs.
I live by the rule that if someone annoys you, then why under any circumstance other than blood would you put up with it? Sometimes blood is not even thick enough.

Sunny2's avatar

@filmfann that’s not good. Some people have sensitive stomachs.
@SavoirFaire And they are so often “certain!”
@mallei I haven’t herd that, but I don’t watch talk shows much.
@jonsblond Feel better? That’s why we’re all here.
@deni Yes, indeed. They don’t even recognize they are pretentious
@judochop You mean your stuffy Uncle Charles?

When they focus on the negative side all the time. I can tolerate simple annoyance pretty well, but being around pessimists makes me depressed.

And impatience. If they seem constantly annoyed and hard to please, that’s a problem. I’ll feel nervous around them all the time.

Sunny2's avatar

@ucme I can imagine that those traits would bother you.
@Mariah I have to put up someone like that. Part of the family. Fortunately not living with me.

People who snort back their snot instead of blowing their nose….........

Sunny2's avatar

@Harold Oh, yuck. That’s a turn off. What can you do?

Harold's avatar

@Sunny2 – I had a student doing it in the front row of a uni exam I was supervising. I went and got him a box of tissues, handed it to him and gave him a rubbish bin too.

@Harold Good for you! Did you get a laugh?
