Activities to do with a cracked (maybe broken) rib(s)?

Asked by King_Pariah (11484points) December 21st, 2011

I’ve had a cracked rib for about two weeks now and events yesterday may have cracked more or made the broken the initial cracked one… That’s besides the point. I’m becoming restless with little to do and wonder if fluther has suggestions on activities that won’t worsen my current condition. Thanks!

Assuming you’re sick of reading, do crosswords! Try to avoid laughter.

You may be in luck. This is college football bowl season. Find a good mismatch between two teams that shouldn’t be playing each other. Nothing puts me to sleep faster.

Here’s an activity: Chill out and rest. Newsflash: a rib is serious business lol.

@sliceswiththings but I like laughing…. :(

@CWOTUS I’m tired of sleeping. Lol

@Blackberry a tad hard to chill out when taking a walk and some stupid asshole in his car mounts the curb and ends up clipping you.

You are doing the best one already: fluthering.

@King_Pariah Now it’s time for a speedy recovery, so you can go kill him lol.

Well, Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier for the first time when he had a broken rib! Maybe you could try that. : )

Practice painting with your toes, juggling with your feet, making shadow puppets on the wall.

Can’t you get a belt or something that will hold your ribs stationary? Would that help? I’ve never had a cracked rib, so I don’t know.

Pretend you are a cat and play with yourself and a laser pointer on the wall.
Just intensely follow the bouncing light dot with your eyes while your head zig zags back and forth. No pouncing! lol

I cracked two ribs and for the first two weeks found that lying in bed or on the sofa, stuffed with ibuprofen, was very stimulating.

You can watch all the cooking and crafts channels, learn some history and science and listen to more news broadcasts than you can stand.

Going from bed to toilet was enough exercise, I discovered.

When I was enduring chemo and radiation over a period of several months, I tried to teach myself classical Greek from a real book. It was distracting and fun (sort of).

@King_Pariah You may not like the suggestions you’re hearing, but you really have no choice if you want it to heal quickly. Immobility of the rib is the only thing that helps it to mend. A sling on the arm nearest the rib might help. Binding your arm to your chest may help. Not twisting your torso will help. Obviously, you can’t put a cast on it. The bone will heal as long as the the cracked edges are touching. If the touching surfaces move all the time, healing can’t take place. So give yourself over to it instead of fighting it. I wish you patience.

Video games. Just don’t jump around. Had broken ribblets myself. I feel for you.
