I can't turn my Kindle Touch off?

Asked by jellyfish3232 (1852points) December 25th, 2011 from iPhone

I just received a Kindle Touch for Christmas, but I can’t seem to turn it off or put it in sleep mode. I’m sure that it’s somehow due to my own ignorance. As I understand it, one just needs to press the power button on the bottom of the device to activate sleep mode, but this doesn’t work for me. The power indicator light flashes green briefly, but there are no other changes. Other than this the device works normally… But how do I put it in sleep mode?

Are you sure it’s not off? E-ink doesn’t draw power to display, just to change screens, so it can display a page while it’s off and it isn’t drawing any power.

I believe that it shows a screensaver in sleep mode, and displays a blank screen when off.

Problem solved. I needed to plug it into the computer first.
