Where can I get in contact with people needing a PCA?

Asked by sunyata_rakshasa (350points) December 28th, 2011

I am a trained Personal Care Attendant (elderly and Disabled people)

Back on the mainland (i live on Big I Hawaii now)

I had only one client, and worked for her for a year. I never went through an agency, so I don’t know how to get a hold of one, or even what these agencies would be called, in order to search for them online.

Long story short I need to get in contact with said agencies on the Big I if they exist here. I need work bad, and I a not qualified for much else, besides general labor.

Any help would be so very appreciated?

Mahalo! :)

A few places to start:

There is a national organization that many reputable firms might link to:
http://www.caremanager.org/
You could look in their “Careers” section for openings on the Big Island.

Another good place to start would be the Hawai’i State Dept. of Health listings for Elder Care and PCA service providers. You could find the ones listed in Hilo and contact them to see if they have openings:
http://hawaii.gov/health/elder-care/health-assurance/licensing/index.html
or
http://hawaii.gov/health/neighbor/big-island/index.html

Good luck!
