Men, how did you feel when you proposed and she said "no"?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) January 2nd, 2012

I have only asked two people in my life to marry me. Both said yes, but not at the same time. The first lady accepted my proposal, but later called off our wedding for reasons unknown. The second lady accepted my proposal and we are still married. Question: but, for those guys out there that were rejected and she said “no”, how did this make you feel? Were you angry, ashamed, embarrassed, or did you feel just plain worthless? Anything goes, so what were your first thoughts, when you asked her to marry you, and she said “no”?

She didn’t say no… unfortunately.

My husband asked me about 5 times before I said yes. He’s sleeping at the moment, or I’d ask him how he felt. I’m pretty sure he’ll say he wasn’t worried, that he knew I’d give in eventually. ;)

^^ Okay, I asked. He was a little upset after the time before the time I finally said yes. In fact, his final (successful) proposal was actually rather grouchy! But, as I suspected, he says he always knew we’d end up married. He figured it was only a matter of time before I accepted the inevitable. I’m awfully glad I did, too.
