Photography ideas?

Asked by Mtrencher (187points) January 5th, 2012

I am looking for stuff to begin my photography portfolio. Any themes, ideas of what to shoot, or inspirations would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’ve known people who collected photographs of chandeliers, doorways, children of different countries, trash receptacles, and toilets. I think it’s important for you to choose your own theme or subject. I might choose old people, food, people’s pets, policemen, but it’s too late for me because I won’t able to travel for long enough any more. You could choose an abstract thing like friendship or anger. Find what’s in you that would inspire your camera work.

What have you studied thus far? Who inspires you to shoot? What inspires you to shoot? Are you seeking a career in Photography? What is the purpose of this portfolio?

Flowers, insects, fruit, your city, street scenes, your family, friends, glassware, buildings… anything and everything. Just grab your camera and see what inspires you. I like to look at the work of great photographers – there are so many websites now with photographers showcasing their work. Or go and look on Flickr or a similar site and see what makes you go “wow” that looks good. Go to your local park and start taking photos of the scenery. Go the nearest beach either at sunset or sunrise.

Good luck – as another novice photographer if you want a chinwag ever – send me a message.

If you live near nature or are taking a trip out of the city then make sure you take some shots of breathtaking landscapes. You can also get more ideas through internet.

If this is for a portfolio I suggest looking for several themes and going with them. Lighting is always fun to play with. I would also suggest at least one theme involving emotion. when I did mine I had a series of shots based on loneliness, such as a deserted swing, the shadows of two people standing together and then one a ways a part and so on.
