My name’s one of the female variants of this and it is reliable, because it’s the same meaning assigned to the Rune for O (Óðal/Othala)
Now, considering I was named after my grandfather and am Nordic, it’s really quite fitting.

eambos's avatar

My name, Eric, is also Nordic and means “Eternal Ruler.” I’m fairly certain this is correct, for may sites allgive the same meaning.

Edit: according to the website wildflower provided, my name is a French spelling of “Erik.” Also, it means “the one mighty ruler.” Yay! I’m King!

shockvalue's avatar

My name is Iain… it means John.

iwamoto's avatar

Camiel, it’s a version of arch angel camael the name means, “he who sees god” and he kicked adam out of eden

playthebanjo's avatar

Andrew means “manly” which is fitting, since I have a beard, a mustache and a penis. LOL

The whole meaning is “strong, manly, corageous” so I guess 33% is not so good.

wildflower's avatar

@playthebanjo
Just wear a really strong cologne and you’ll have the strong and courageous part covered too :)

iwamoto's avatar

wel,l he has a beard, that’s manly, you’ve seen my beard right? i look like a real man don’t i? am i forced to post it again?

wildflower's avatar

I’m afraid to answer that iwamoto, considering your current avatar doesn’t suggest you have much facial hair…...

iwamoto's avatar

it’s an old picture, oh what the heck, here i am, me and my mac and no, i’ll never do a moustache :p

wildflower's avatar

Phew! I’m relieved :)
Cool shot – for an ad?

iwamoto's avatar

no, although it could be right? “hi, i’m a mac, and i’m a pc” pleasing baritone voice and i’m iwamoto

well, but does it look manly on me or not? :p

wildflower's avatar

The mac or the beard? I like to think macs are quite unisex, but beards are manly, they’re certainly not very lady-like…

iwamoto's avatar

yeah. but does that beard make me look many, or…well, my ex said it made me look like a hobo

wildflower's avatar

It’s a bit like new-age hippy meets Abraham Lincoln :)

playthebanjo's avatar

It’d be much more manly if it were a macbook pro instead of an ibook. LOL

iwamoto's avatar

i know, but it was me and my mac photography day, oh, in a few months it’s a macbook pro

Magnus's avatar

Magnus, means big.

manaf's avatar

my name means who are you!

Alison means of noble birth, or of noble sort/kind according to numerous websites. and Alison with one L came before Allison with two Ls thankyou very much. Alison came from Alice which came from Adalheidis. Adal means noble and heid means kind, sort, type. This was the name of Otto the Great’s wife. The name Adelaide also came from this, a city in Australia is named so.

marinelife's avatar

Mine means “of the sea.”

PupnTaco's avatar

David means “beloved.” Awwwww.

edmartin101's avatar

@iwamoto The beard makes you manly but the long hair throws you off. That’s just my perception, perhaps my antennas are picking up the wrong signal…......lol

I should start living up to it one of these days.

Allie's avatar

I guess I’ll second Shrubery because my name is Allison (yea, with 2 L’s).

“Germanic/French: Noble kind; of the noble sort
Variant of Alison, a Norman French diminutive of Alice.
Since 1963 in the US, Allison has been more popular than Alison.”

My names Hannah. Hannah means graceful, and I am the opposite of graceful. Maybe i will be one day,.... :) as for now: clumsy.

hearkat's avatar

Katherine means “pure” and this appears to be consistent across most sources I’ve checked over the years.

shockvalue's avatar

@ TheHaight: Every Hannah I know tells me the same thing! haha

TheHaight's avatar

haha, really? That’s good, I don’t feel so alone then in my clumsiness. Us Hannah’s will be graceful one day.

That website rocks, Scamp! Apparently I’m a bit of an alpha female with a red aura and a green brain…...

Glad you like it. There are tons of fun quizzes there if you like doing that sort of thing.

RICHARD
Gender: Masculine

Usage: English, French, German, Czech

Pronounced: RICH-ard (English), ree-SHAR (French), RIKH-ahrt (German) [key]

Means “brave power”, derived from the Germanic elements ric “power, rule” and hard “brave, hardy”. The Normans introduced this name to Britain. It was borne by three kings of England including Richard the Lionheart, leader of the Third Crusade in the 12th century. Two German opera composers, Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss, have also had this name.

Scamp: Your link sent me back to this page. Hmm…??

edmartin101's avatar

Just looked up my name in wiki and found this

scamp's avatar

Sorry about the bad link. Hopefully this will work better! I was having some major trouble with my computer when I posted the first one.

Allie's avatar

Much better link. Here’s what it said about “Allison” -

You are usually the best at everything… you strive for perfection.
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.
You have the classic “Type A” personality.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.
You are light hearted and accepting. You don’t get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It’s easy to get you excited… which can be a good or bad thing.
You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don’t stick with any one thing for very long.
You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are the total package – suave, sexy, smart, and strong.
You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know.
You don’t always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don’t have as much going for them as you do.

You are well rounded, with a complete perspective on life.
You are solid and dependable. You are loyal, and people can count on you.
At times, you can be a bit too serious. You tend to put too much pressure on yourself.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

wildflower's avatar

hmmm…..do you think there’s a chance that site just spits out a random mix of descriptive lines? I’m seeing a few reoccurring lines….

Allie's avatar

WF: My thought was it does something with the letters in your name because Scamp’s description is also longer than mine is. Maybe they counted the double L’s in my name as one. I’m not sure though.

scamp's avatar

I wouldn’t count on it as the gospel truth. Your personality is not governed by the name you have. But it’s a fun site, and I seem to have some of the traits they listed. I used that because whenever I try to look up Kim, it tells me short for Kimberly.. A diamond mine in Africa! How boring is that? ha ha!!

wildflower's avatar

Hey, it’s not boring to be full of precious things :)

hearkat's avatar

@Allie: Hpw can a person be a “classic Type A” and in the next line it says you’re “a relaxed, chill person” then further down, you’re “tightly wound”. Sounds random and contradictory, so anyone will find something in there that ‘fits’ their self-image.

Names are pretty random, since they are chosen by someone for us before we’ve even developed a personality.

Allie's avatar

hearkat: I have no idea. I was puzzled when I read those too. Like I said, I think it just uses the letters from your name and spits out a “description” of you. I wouldn’t take it seriously.

edmartin101's avatar

I believe none of the sites will nail all your traits right on cos there could be two of you with the same name but totally different characters and social styles. If it was true about the description these sites provide, we will just be humanoids…....lol
