Are there more weird Bible passages than these?

Exodus 35:2 “2 For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.”

Deuteronomy 23:1 ESV
No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord.

and

Genesis 38:8–10 NASB
Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother’s wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother. But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD; so He took his life also.

JG 19:22–29 A group of sexual depraved men beat on the door of an old man’s house demanding that he turn over to them a male house guest. Instead, the old man offers his virgin daughter and his guest’s concubine (or wife): “Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine; let me bring them out now. Ravish them and do with them what seems good to you; but against this man do not do so vile a thing.” The man’s concubine is ravished and dies. The man then cuts her body into twelve pieces and sends one piece to each of the twelve tribes of Israel.

Yes, there are a lot more weird Bible passages than those. But they didn’t seem weird to the people of that time and place. They seem very weird to us today. Just like many of the things we do would seem very weird to them as well.

Ever read the ones that go something like if a virgin is raped then the rapist has to take her as his wife and pay a fine? There’s a few more in that collection of verses. King James is just weird, period.

@King_Pariah That’s in all the Bibles, not just King James’ version.

Scratch this post, I’m being stupid again

@King_Pariah It’s definitely there. The phrasing might be a bit different, depending upon the version, but King James didn’t just invent that stuff outta nowhere.

Holy shit. O_o If people back then had cameras, they would have made some interesting porn and horror movies.

It only sounds weird because you live in the year 2012. To properly understand such passages deep socio-cultural perspectives are necessary and this requires higher education.

Between our current society, or those of ancient history, I wonder which will look stranger to historians a thousand years from now?
