How come in "The Golden Compass" the souls are called demons?

Asked by ToxicLove (179points) January 16th, 2012

Why is it that in the movie “The Golden Compass” the souls are called demons? And is that the reason people thought the movie was evil?

Because we all need to learn to tame our demons.

I don’t remember the business about the souls being called demons from the book The Golden Compass but the work is considered anti-organized Christianity.

They’re not “demons” but “daemons”. Very different

The movie was a piece of shit… like in all possible ways that a movie could be utter shit, it was shit.

The books are amazing.

Everybody thought the movie was evil because Philip Pullman, who wrote the books, is a staunch atheist, but they altered it enough to please a more general audience in the film.

@ninjacolin It was a great film, and the books were great, too, just different because books and movies are different. Any book compared to its movie counterpart is going to be infinitely better (except when the book was terrible, like _The Da Vinci Code), and books can get away with things movies can’t. As far as movies go, it was very good, a bit ahead of itself, but it was better and more compelling than a film like Harry Potter.

Hey, @Rarebear , that link didn’t work for me….

No, @ddude1116.
The movie was terrible.
The books were awesome.

don’t make me repeat myself.

@ninjacolin It was a fantastic film, based from an even more fantastic book. Just because the director couldn’t fit four-hundred pages into ninety-minutes doesn’t automatically make it terrible.
